This movie is great, and just totally AWESOME!!!! Great acting by Diane Lane,Roy Schineder, and CERTAINLY SYLVESTER STALLONE!!!! Sylvester plays a great no-nonsense judge. Definetely worth renting!!!
I revisited this, and found it to be nearly as entertaining as it used to be. Fans of the series hate it, and it gets a bad rap in general, but if you come without preconceptions just looking for a fun, cool movie, you'll get it.
Have no idea why i like this cheesy movie. Its one of those movies I can watch anytime. must be the slightly dark humor. Almost an extension of Demolition Man.
I agree with the synopsis - not well thought out, they were banking on action and stallone's hot body. If neither one of those pique your interest - forget about it
Everyone railed this movie, but I didn't think it was all the terrible. I mean, Diane Lane in spandex! I never followed the comic, so maybe that is why I liked it.
Has there ever been a more miscast lead actor in movies? This is dreadful matching most of the performances, especially an irritating, unfunny Rob Schneider.
Arrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhh.... why oh why? I love 2000AD and Judge Dread but this film was a travesty, with a stupid story n an ugly gimp as dread.
Judge Joseph Dredd (Sylvester Stallone) was created of being part of The Janus Project failed genetic engineering program as the perfect street judge lawman of the futuristic. A love interest in between Judge Dredd & Judge Hershey (Diane Lane).
But enjoyable trash all the same. The story is stupid, the special effects are a mix of impressive at times to really poor.
Stallone is what makes this flick watchable. He looks like he is having a lot of fun and seems to understand that this is something not to be taken seriously.
Diane Lane is fine and Rob Schneider is just plain annoying. It's a bit of a mess as a film, but Sly does enough to make this an ok watch.
This movie is kinda predictable but like many other movies to me it was purely watched for entertainment purposes.
From what I have heard and seen in this film I borrows a lot of the great things that were in the comic books.
Stallone played Dredd pretty well, I didn't much care for the character of Rico, I thought his acting was kind of flat and boring, at points he was interesting but then he started talking too much and over acting.
The effects were neat, i liked the voice activated gun, the interesting contact lenses and the whole design of the cities.
I love Diane Lane so she was fun to watch as Hershey.
Rob Schneider by far was my favorite in the film, his character could have been tweaked a bit more and it would have been perfect.
The "I knew you would say that" line got a bit annoying, where as Stallone's "I am the law" line was cool each time it came around.
The cannibal "Angel Family" was a neat touch, I liked the mutant robot cannibal.
And the ABC Warrior kicked ass! that was a very cool concept for a robot, I really enjoyed the animatronic and the voice effect for it.
It dragged a bit in places and the story was a bit messed up but its worth watching.
Except for Rob Schneider, whose wise-cracking coward is reminiscent of one of those irritating sidekicks you get in animated movies, this has a far better cast than it deserves: Diane Lane, Max von Sydow, Armand Assante, Jurgen Prochnow, Joan Chen... It begins well enough, with a jokey tone similar to that of "Total Recall" and a surprisingly droll performance from Stallone, clearly enjoying himself immensely as the eponymous lawman. However, once a frame-up puts paid to Dredd dispensing 'justice' with a quip, the film becomes indistinguishable from the legion of other Sly movies in which he is pitted against a deadly foe and a mountain of adversity. In the film's favour, it is colourful and it looks terrific, achieving a closer approximation to a graphic novel made real than many, otherwise superior, comic book adaptations. To name just a few points of reference, bits and pieces ought to remind you of "Blade Runner" (grotty cyberpunk stylisation), "Robocop" (an ED-209-ish robot), perhaps even "The Hills Have Eyes" (a mutant cannibal family).
this could of been so good and like batman needs a reimagining now.there are some nice touches here...the robots, the outfits, the cannibal baddies, megacity effects and the clones are all good lookin but the acting and violence are way way too low, scheider is just dreadful.made for the kiddies again.
this needs to be dark, brooding, mega violent and hard as nails.
