Sidner's story begins in the 1930s with the tragic death of his father Aron's beloved wife Solveig. Aron is so devastated that he can neither function effectively nor take proper care of the children Sidner and Eva-Lisa. Aron eventually finds salvation and solace through a ham radio friendship with Fanny, a woman in New Zealand. Years pass and Sidner becomes a teen.
