I think this was the first movie I saw with Robin Williams in it and he totally shines. he is great as a kind of actiony person here but it is also a great kids comedy movie of sorts.
i used to believe the animals where all real and couldn't work out how they got them to do the things they did. great graphics.
omg, what a classic story, I think every kid of the 90s has watched this and LOVED it. Even when people would get the board game...they'd be paranoid to open that shit, JUST in case wild rhinos busted through the door and started running amok, a real classic for the 90s, undeniably.

Well, this was one of my favorite childhood movies. Robin williams is great. and Kirsten Dunst isn't a slut in this movie! I know, it's surprising, but, she was only about twelve when she did this.
12 year old boy named Alan Parrish (Adam Hann-Byrd) is drawn to a strange sound of drumbeats outside his father's shoe factory in a construction site to lead him to a locked trunk containing a mysterious board game, called "Jumanji" with his friend Sarah Whittle (Laura Bell Bundy). Judy (Kirsten Dunst) & Peter Shepherd (Bradley Pierce), move into the old Parrish estate with their Aunt Nora Shepherd (Bebe Neuwirth). They are saved by a bearded man dressed in leaves 38-year old Alan Parrish (Robin Williams) traps the lion in aunt Nora's bedroom. They find Sarah Whittle (Bonnie Hunt) at her old house when she faints when Alan reveals who he is. Sarah runs in front of Alan to save him when the game ended they are children in 1969 with knowledge what they did growing up. Alan & Sarah are married celebrate Christmas with family & friends (including Carl) with Alan being Santa Claus. Jim Shepherd hired by Alan and Sarah to work on the advertising for Parrish shoes & meets his wife, Martha Shepherd when Alan & Sarah Parrish revealed Jim & Martha Shepard are Parents of Judy & Peter @ the Parrish house.
In 1969, "Alan Parrish" (Adam Hann-Byrd) and the object of his schoolboy crush, "Sarah Whittle" (Laura Bell Bundy) play an unusual game -- which sucks "Alan" into itself. 26 years later, two children (Kirsten Dunst and Bradley Pierce) move into the abandoned "Parrish" place and find the game, called Jumanji, in the attic.
As the two play, they release a now adult "Alan" (Robin Williams) from the game, along with some wild animals and carnivorous plants -- and one mean hunter (Jonathan Hyde, who also plays the father of "Alan") who wants to kill "Alan."
This is very much a special effects movie. In just about every scene is CGI and animatronics creatures. When it comes to the CGI animals, they are obviously computer generated. Look closely at the hair of the monkeys -- it is obvious that it's not realistic looking. Also, the shots of the human cast merged into scenes with CGI creatures are inserted near perfectly. After over a decade since this movie was originally released, it's still hard to tell where the human cast members are inserted from being shot in front of a green screen.
Although the performances are pretty good from the entire cast, the characters are not developed greatly. They are only developed enough to understand their backstories. At least two characters have the least amount of development, and are used only to advance the scenes they are in.
One thing this movie does well is action. It gives just enough of a break to take a little breather. The action is fast paced, and shot nicely.
Very nice adventure and I really liked the main idea. The beasts were extremely disgusting though. I remember having nightmares for a month after the first time I saw it (note that I was barely nine years old)!
I thought this movie was dull even when I was a kid. Robin Williams does what he can with it, but nothing about the production ever felt inspired or exciting.
This is a fabulous movie to watch with family, and younger siblings. It's probably one of the best Robin Williams movie I've seen, and it's definetly on my top faves. It's eventful and action packed, and it opens up your imagination. :]
Interesting story. However, it was really entertaining. I mean I was freaked by the lion, the huge mosquitoes, and even the monkeys. It was nicely made.
