  Virtually, if youâ(TM)ve seen any wedding comedyâ"be it FATHER OF THE BRIDE, MY BEST FRIENDâ(TM)S WEDDING, MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING, BRIDESMAIDS, AMERICAN WEDDING, MEET THE PARENTS, or anything along those linesâ"youâ(TM)ve seen JUMPING THE BROOM. The script follows the same structure that has made such films clichà (C)d, unless they are workshopped beyond predictability. Woman meets man, man meets woman. Relationship doesnâ(TM)t work out. Subtitle rolls in: âFive seconds laterâ¦â� Cue man surprising woman, and all of a sudden relationship works out. Man proposes to woman. Wedding is planned. Families meet. One family member makes an attempt to screw up wedding. Tension builds up. Woman calls off wedding, but deep down, we know from similar experiences that it will eventually happen (without giving any actual spoilers). Insert intermittent sighs and groans. Okay, and a few genuine intermittent laughs. I admit to emitting sophisticated chuckles twice during this film: when a member of Jasonâ(TM)s family interpreted Sabrinaâ(TM)s motherâ(TM)s line, âVa jouer avec ta putain,â� as, âI gonâ(TM) hitâ(TM)chu onna head witâ(TM) a computer;â� and when a member of Jasonâ(TM)s family called the Cupid Shuffle âthe hokey pokey for black people.â� Those were about the only two bright, clever spots in this otherwise typical film.   Jumping the Broom is not a Tyler Perry movie, but it couldve fooled me. The plot has been done many times before and bored the crap out of me, nothing in the movie was surprising or fun, it was just another wedding movie with family problems. The dramatic scenes in the film were great however, one moment near the end I almost cried, and you really grow to love and hate some of these characters. The cast was not actually that bad, I liked these characters but some were kind of annoying, but these were good performances. The comedy portion was not funny at all, I never laughed or found it amusing, but then again I despise most romantic comedies, so I expected not to find t funny. Jumping the Broom is a movie you can miss, it wasn't that funny.

  Jumping the Broom is not a Tyler Perry movie, but it couldve fooled me. The plot has been done many times before and bored the crap out of me, nothing in the movie was surprising or fun, it was just another wedding movie with family problems. The dramatic scenes in the film were great however, one moment near the end I almost cried, and you really grow to love and hate some of these characters.   Imagine a Tyler Perry movie with slightly better framing (just slightly), a quicker pace, a sweet disposition, and the surface sheen of a sitcom and you pretty much get JUMPING THE BROOM (not the Noah's Arc movie btw). All text instead of subtext, this unsubtle, soapy film plays like a MEET THE PARENTS/LOVE BOAT mashup...yet it's not as bad as that sounds...not quite. The tale of a wedding of a rich girl to a working class guy and their family clashes ping pongs around its stunning Martha's Vineyard locations to showcase a lot of hyper-emoting, bitch slapping, secret-revealing, and often mean-spirited combat. Everything is a little too on-the-nose to qualify this as anything more than a time-killing programmer, and what it says about family bonds is certainly nothing new, but it ultimately has its heart in the right place. It doesn't hurt that the cast is drop dead gorgeous either. Paula Patton, so memorable in PRECIOUS, is the romantic lead, and she overdoes the adorableness at times, but is just so damn perfect, you could care less. Same goes for her betrothed, played by Laz Alonso. Angela Basset plays Patton's mom, while Loretta Devine is the groom's soul-sucking nag... and as much as I love both of these actors, I have to say that neither are at their best here. Bassett comes across so damn unlikable, while Devine is just downright irritating, that it feels like the film has been overstuffed with villains. After 10 minutes, you just want them to act like decent human beings for once and treat each other with a modicum of respect. Instead, they gossip, take constant swipes at each other, and draw very sharp lines in the sand, in case we don't get that they don't like each other. Basically a film about not judging a book by its cover, taking a breath and allowing each other to have our flaws, JUMPING THE BROOM ultimately feels nice enough. Just don't expect anything even bordering on a real, true moment.

  Incredibly awesome comedy of two folks, (Paula Patton) and (Laz Alonso) whom despite their opposing backgrounds decide to..."jump the broom" into the promised land of matrimony. Relatives on both sides of the couple have their reasons why this particular couple shouldn't be joined in wedlock, but despite the reasons...the happiness that this couple want to share...hilariously out weighs the odds set before them. See this, it's guaranteed to be one matrimonial comedy you wouldn't forget.

  This is a good movie. What's wrong with just watching something a little bit delightful and fun. A wedding held at in Martha's Vinyeard, a blue collar guy, well actaually he's a Wall Street hot shot named Jason (Laz Alonso) meets and falls for a very attractive woman who cmes from a wealthy family named Sabrina (Paula Patton). Both plan to get married but their moms have different agendas. The comedy is right. Not over the top, not immature, the cast is beautiful, the look of the picture is something to take notice. Some scenes do feel like a sitcom and rushed but the director Salim Akil keeps everything at a fine line where you can at least smile for a good hour and fifty three minutes. I'm not really a fan of comedic pictures but this one I can tolerate.

  I really can't explain why I kinda enjoyed this movie. It started off pretty good and I thought the characters were interesting but then it fell apart and became overly cheezy but it did entertain.
