Plot
Naina Catherine Kapur (Preity Zinta) is an angry young woman, for more than one reason. Her father committed suicide when she needed him the most, leaving his wife Jennifer (Jaya Bachchan) to raise their children all alone. The restaurant Jennifer operates is faltering. Furthermore, Naina's paternal grandmother, Lajjo (Sushma Seth), blames Jennifer for the suicide and refuses to accept Gia, a six-year-old girl whom Jennifer adopted, as her granddaughter, blaming her for bringing bad luck to the family. Naina has to put up with the daily fights that take place in the house as a result. The only factors that redeem her life are the toiling and tolerant Jennifer and Naina's bumbling MBA classmate Rohit (Saif Ali Khan)Aman Mathur (Shahrukh Khan) arrives in Naina's neighbourhood and soon changes everything. Noticing the sadness of his new neighbours, he intervenes. His well-meaning interference in their activities, his revival of their financial condition, and his general optimism soon change their lives for the better. Although Naina is initially reluctant to enjoy Aman's presence as others do and is irritated by his extroverted, overly-enthusiastic attitude, she grows to like him and eventually to love him.
Meanwhile, her friend Rohit has fallen in love with her. On Aman's encouragement, he calls Naina for lunch but before he can propose to her, she reveals her love for Aman. Rohit informs Aman about this and leaves shortly for his parents' home. Naina goes to Aman's house where, to stop her from confessing her feelings to him, Aman tells her that he is married to a woman named Priya.
Aman, it is revealed, is dying of a weak heart. Knowing that his lifespan is limited, he goes through life facilitating friendships and courtship, and urging people to enjoy themselves in the present moment since "tomorrow might never come". His excursions into such altruism extend to sacrificing his love for Naina and instead playing matchmaker between her and Rohit. After a few weeks of courtship, Naina starts to like Rohit as more than just a friend and accepts his proposal of marriage.The tension within Naina's family also stops when Aman, after intercepting a personal letter addressed to Jennifer, reveals that Gia is Naina's half-sister through their father's extramarital affair. Lajjo finally accepts Gia, and the now-united family wholeheartedly prepare for Rohit and Naina's wedding.
As the film progresses, Aman's health deteriorates. One episode of intense excitement nearly kills him. Naina, in a chance encounter, meets Priya, Aman's supposed wife who is actually his doctor. She then realises that Aman had lied about him being married to hide his true condition, and possibly, the fact that he may love her in return. She goes to see Aman, and although he defiantly refuses to admit his true feelings, she finally understands that he loves her as well. Aman convinces her to get married to Rohit anyway, because he will not be alive much longer. Aman eventually dies of his weakness, shortly after Rohit and Naina get married. -
MCT:July 18, 2008Just a wonderful, heart touching film. I seen it tonnes of times and I can never get sick of it. The music is just great and catchy. Great acting from Jaya and Preity

I watched it many times and still going to watch it again!It's a very good movie that reminded me I used to like hindi movies.Though I didn't like the idea of changing Nina & Rohit's friendship into love!!!!

MCT:July 6, 2008Preity Sinyta is adorable in this, but Shahrukh is 100% ridiculous. He is known for his overracting at times, but he was out of control in this one. This was a huge hit, but I just couldn't buy it.

I could just say a billion things about this movie. I love it with all my heart. The acting is just legendary. Songs are wonderful. Cinematography is awesome.
And the storyline is just so awesome. It really clings you to it. -

Brilliant! one of the best movies of 2003! the story takes you deep into the lives of the characters and leaves you with tears towards the end.

a really sad movie some people in my familly cry specialy my cuzins cry lott in kal ho na ho!!!!!!That was sooo funny whenn i look at them and my cuzin was crying so badly!!!!!!!!!hahahaha thank you very much for that movie i was trying make my cuzin cry but the movie make them cry !! one's again thank you very much for that movieee!!!!!!!!!

MCT:November 21, 2007Naina is an Indian girl who lives with her father, mother and grandmother in India. Unable to handle the constant bickering between his mother and his wife, he kills himself. Naina resigns herself to a live a life amidst the constant arguments. She hopes to eventually wed Rohit, and live with him, despite his failings. Then Aman moves in next door, and both fall in love with each other. Naina would like to get married to him, but he would like Naina to get married to Rohit. Naina must now find out why Aman is refusing to marry her, and if at all, there is another woman in his life.

Another one in my extended exploration of Bollywood. Not my favorite so far, but I like the New York City setting. Bollywood, I've noticed, likes to give lots of viewing time to an appreciative audience. Of all the ones I've seen so far, this one is one I definitely think could have used some crispy editing. I also believe this one may come closest to what I'd imagine an Indian TV soap might be like. Depending on your emotional connection to this story, you may or may not need to have the tissues handy.

Well if you are a hopeless romantic like me and you want to be uplifted and maybe need a break from the usual Hollywood fare then Bollywood is just for you
This movie is absolutely wonderful - subtitles included. Set in New York the miserable girl meets flamboyant boy whilst befriending another at University. Boy one falls in love with girl and girl responds, but there is one catch, this charming guy has a heart disease and hasn't long to live - so he sacrifices his love and plays cupid to ensure that the other boy and his girl fall in love as he steps back to enjoy seeing his friend and girl make it big. Wonderfulyl uplifting music and dance with two gorgeous guys to boot in the form of Shahrukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan, all makes this a wonderful uplifting watch -

I was actually surprised. This film kept appearing on Flixster and I didn't think i'd ever get the chance to see it but it just happened to be on tv last night. I didn't think I was going to enjoy it but I did. I could never picture Asian cinema as being funny. But this film pulled it off very nicely. A good watch.

Very emotional romatic comedy - I was crying alot!
The music was memorable and the acting convincing. It's long at over 3hrs but worth it.
