Carmen (Hideko Takamine) has taken up stripping in a… More As in most of his films, noted Japanese director Keisuke Kinoshita also wrote the screenplay for this humorous-serious story of a resounding culture clash when the urbanized daughter of an old-fashioned farmer comes back to her native village. Carmen (Hideko Takamine) has taken up stripping in a nightclub in Tokyo in order to keep herself in sushi and pay the rent. When she goes back home to visit her strict, old-fashioned father, she takes a friend and fellow stripper with her (Toshiko Kobayashi). The traditional, simple villagers and especially Carmen's father (Takeshi Sakamoto) are shocked at the clothes she wears, her habits (like chewing gum), and her loose ways of speaking and acting. But Carmen has a chance to redeem herself when she and her friend opt for putting on a socko performance in an old barn in order to raise money for the needs of the impoverished village. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi
