  This Hong Kong police film is more of a story telling and gets rounded up because the way the police officers assemble themselves and carry out orders, feels more like a documentary than an action movie, in terms of realism. I am not surprised if they had actually had an adviser from the Hong Kong Police to teach them the tactical side. Simon Yam has great screen presence, but somehow this flick fails to capitalise on that and with its paper thin plot line, Yam is left with little to work with.

  Wing-cheong Law, who has done a lot of assistant directing work at this point, moves up into the director's chair to bring the first in a series of follow up films to Johnnie To's <i>PTU</i>.<p>This crime thriller can be considered a sequel, however watching <i>PTU</i> is not a requirement. The story stands on its own and only the main characters are the connection between the films.</p><p>The story is decent enough to warrant a watch for fans of these types of films. There is also a subplot, which involves one of the tactical unit officers, and while this is a little distracting at times, it eventually weaves its way into the main storyline to create a good ending.</p><p>The pacing is fairly slow, however this is expected. There is major emphasis on story and characters, rather than fancy shootouts and car chases. There is none of that in here. The directing doesn't live up to Johnnie To's <i>PTU</i>, but that doesn't destroy the film because the cinematography is still more than decent.</p><p>The acting is good. Simon Yam, Maggie Siu, and Lam Suet all easily reprise their roles and pick up where they left off. Kwok-Lun Lee join's the cast as a major supporting character.</p><p><i>Tactical Unit: The Code</i> isn't anything new, but it is an enjoyable crime thriller nonetheless. It is worth a watch for fans of <i>PTU</i>.
