Immaturity and poor sportsmanship once again find their firmly established place in children's athletics (at least among the adults) in this sports comedy. Phil Weston (Will Ferrell) is a tightly wound suburban father who had a competitive streak worn into him by his father, Buck (Robert Duvall), who never seemed to feel that his son measured up. When Phil's son joins a Little League soccer team, Phil signs on as coach, only to learn that Buck -- who also has a ten-year-old son these days -- will be coaching a team in the same league. Critic Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes

"Will Ferrell has become the most unlikely embodiment of wholesome family fun since Fred MacMurray gave up film noir for My Three Sons."
‑ Stephen Garrett, Time Out New York
"Ferrell is one of the film's few bright lights. It's a shame to hide that subversive beacon under a bushel of dully inspirational sports movie cliches."
‑ Michael O'Sullivan, Washington Post
"Is this all there is to Ferrell's career? Mediocre comedies, and wasted talent?"
‑ Felix Vasquez Jr., Cinema Crazed
"The picture is a little about soccer, a little about parenting, and a lot about laughing. Mike Ditka shows up and delivers a kick-butt performance."
‑ Ross Anthony, Hollywood Report Card
"Will Ferrell cria um personagem carismático a partir de um roteiro burocrático e, no processo, consegue divertir e levar o espectador a se envolver com a história."
‑ Pablo Villaca, Cinema em Cena
"... barely watchable."
‑ John Monaghan, Detroit Free Press
"As lazy, bloated and TV-screen- friendly as shameless promos come."
‑ Ann Hornaday, Washington Post
"Director Jesse Dylan, desperate to avoid yawns, flails madly with staging, editing, slow motion -- any trick he can think of, whether it fits or works or not."
‑ Jim Lane, Sacramento News & Review
"Kicking & Screaming succeeds because it understands its target audience, refraining from playing it too cute or crude. Though predictable, it's well executed."
‑ Russ Breimeier, Christianity Today
"... Kicking & Screaming is not very good."
‑ Pete Vonder Haar, Film Threat
"A zero, but the title describes how the audience is likely to react, perfectly."
‑ Rex Reed, New York Observer
"If you're into Will Ferrell."
‑ Malene Arpe, Toronto Star
"If this footy film was in a league it would be languishing at the bottom of the Vauxhall Conference."
‑ Amber Wilkinson, Eye for Film
"Mostly useless"
‑ Stefan Birgir Stefansson, sbs.is
"Kicking and Screaming feels as if it were callously vomited out by a machine, along with a couple of spare parts and some putrid grease."
‑ Jeffrey M. Anderson, Combustible Celluloid
