Nicely understated comedy/drama that does little to offend and manages to force a smile or two. Simple story with some elements of alienation that Mike Leigh would be proud of. Family type fun with a message that doesn't entirely hit home. The cast look bored most of the time (or...( read more) maybe just English). Not for homophobes or racists, but normal people might get a giggle. Lets face it sexy boots are sooooo bloody impractical, but to quote Lola ... "Sex isn't supposed to be comfortable!".

A shoe company owner goes to extreme measures to save the company. Will it work? Will he learn a valuable lesson? Will there be a romantic sub-plot? Will they make it to the Milan shoe festival? This is pretty much The Full Monty 2. It follows the exact same patterns, with loved ...( read more)ones hammering down the young hero for his ridiculous ideas. Ejiofor is of course amazing, avoiding cliche and making a heartfelt and moving performance. A lot of the film seems dull in comparison, apart from the unexplainably dramatic score, I thought the lost ark was about to be raided or the Jedi's would return at any moment. The film may have worked better as a more whimsical farce despite being based on a true story. Funny? Yes. But painfully predictable, especially the soundtrack. "These boots are made for walking"? "It's a Mans World" they're all here.

This reminded me a little of "To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar" only in a shoe factory in England.

So..Chiwetel is not the best looking cross dresser. But this is a heart felt film, and an interesting story line to talk about acceptance.

A great movie to understand the work in a shoe factory and also the world of drag queens. Loved it!

Very funny true story. Takes awhile to get going but really sucks you in. Funny to see Nick Frost in a less-than-sympathetic role (at first), but it's Chiwetel Ejiofor as the brazen transvestite that steals the show.

Following in the style of 'The Full Monty' comes this adapted true story of an old fashioned Northampton shoe factory about to go bust - but through belief and British fighting spirit transforms itself with the decision to make fetish footwear especially for cross-dressers! Chjw...( read more)etel Ejiofor's stunning performance as the magnificent transvestite who saves the day, by designing a kinky boot to stand the strain of a muscular six foot man certainly justifies the very high reputation he has gained as an actor.

Littered with moments of humour, pathos, irony and stereotype challenges the story unfolds to a happy ending with at least two of the plot lines. The characters are warm and the script trundles along quite nicely. It's well worth a sunday night watch but definitely not a saturday night blockbuster. Enjoy it for its steady, warm predictability.
