Very very very good. Ultimate action of Jet Lie and decently described characters who're involved in good human drama. Also, pictorial quality is very high and color schemes were memorably beautiful. Good cinematography, tempo and directing too so you can watch many times and still enjoy.
Jet Li's follow up to the lacklustre 'Romeo Must Die' promised us a mixture of Luc Besson's 'Nikita' and Jet's finest hour (and a half) 'Fist of Legend'. I almost laughed when I heard that claim, however, my expectations were still high.
There are many good things to come out of this film, with the amount of action being one. From start to finish there are a number of highly violent, stylish and competently choreographed fight sequences. 'Fist of Legend' they ain't, but they jump over and above anything seen in previous American action films (barring 'Drive' and 1 scene in 'The Matrix'), and they?re streets ahead of RMD and 'Rush Hour'. On the downside, good choreography is not the be all and end all of a good fight scene. Camera positioning, editing and music all combine to create the scene, and this is where Hong Kong movies still reign supreme. For all Yuen Kwai and Jet's efforts, it is the MTV-style editing and close-up camera-work which reduces your viewing pleasure. You end up feeling a little sea-sick, wishing the camera man would stand still and the editor would put his scissors away.
The movie has a nice feel to it, with larger than life characters and great scenery. Jet is more assured in his quiet and moody mode, more reminiscent of his Lethal Weapon 4 role than RMD?s almost schizophrenic bad guy/good guy. Bridget Fonda is nowhere near as annoying as some people have made out, while Burt Kwouk is always entertaining. It also had me laughing out loud at one point when Jet is approached in a Bar with the phrase: "Men?s toilets. Now!"
A lad's with lager film, but one that doesn't fail in it's objective: Jet Li kicks ass?violently?and lots of it. I'm still waiting for another 'Fist of Legend' and fear I always will be.
Jet Li puts in a decent performance as a Chinese agent fighting corruption in the Frenc Police force while taking care of Brigitte Fonda the prostitute. Watch out for the accupuncture.
Great martial arts flick. Can't go wrong if you cast Burt Kwouk and there's some damned fine action for Jet Li. Worth the price of admission just for him fighting Cyril Raffaelli, one of the creators of Parkour (the short blonde twin in this)
The plot is whatever, but the fighting choreography is what makes this film. Cue ball scene and Jet Li blocking 4 dudes' attacks then beating their A was amazing.
Ah, asian action movie stars. The second class citizens of the north american action film industry. Forced to labor and kick just as much contrived bad guy ass as their western counterparts, but never allowed to drive. Or fuck to the girl they save for that matter. Such images, evidently deemed far too horrific for most western audiences.
Once again an Asian star is lumbered with the weakest of material when trying to crack the American market. Luc Besson's scripts only work when done with his trademark tongue in cheek humour. Taken seriously, all you are left with is daft steretypes and some serious lapses in logical story telling. I mean in what dimension is a French detective an irredeemably evil, grenade-toting psychopath who can mow down dozens of civilians with automatic weapons in plain sight of everyone without ever getting caught...? Jet Li is his usual charismatic self, and his physical performance is as flawless as always. Bridget Fonda also brings a believable touch of vulnerability and humanity to her rather stereotypical tart with a heart character but the strength of their performances only serves to remind you that they are both better than this kind of generic action nonsense.
Really really good. I loved the action and kung-foo style fighting scenes. The story was actually really good although I thought it wouldn't even have a story so I was proved wrong. It was emotional and exciting. Was a bit confusing in the beginning hence the 1/2 star but was awesome otheriwse. I also like how they used the "kiss of the dragon" as the name because of how it was used in the movie. I was a bit confused until he said what the needle place is called. Excelent.
wow what a film...ive seen this n thought its was ace....this is a good film....i think the kung = fu fighting in this movie was pretty good i think that bridget fonda is really hott in this movie...it has a good plot line,,,,the story was ok its got good shoot = outs in this movie.....i think this was a pretty good film,...i enjoyed this movie
Really nice movie.Martial arts are given in a way that even people who ae not into those kind of films are able to watch it. Jet Li gives an amazing preformence. Watch it if you are looking for something amuzing.
