Critic Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes

"Though the jokey lines seem out of place, the somber tone of this 1998 action movie makes the political subtext more sincere and less grandiose than usual."
‑ Lisa Alspector, Chicago Reader
"The plot is as incomprehensible as the dubbing, and many of the special effects are neither special nor effective."
‑ John Haslett Cuff, Globe and Mail
"Suffice it to say that it plays exceptionally badly in English."
‑ Maitland McDonagh, TV Guide's Movie Guide
"The fact that hardly anything makes sense in the film didn't discourage Tsui Hark."
‑ Dragan Antulov, rec.arts.movies.reviews
"Alternately the best and the worst action movie ever made, and it ends up being one big uneven mess."
‑ Kevin N. Laforest, Montreal Film Journal
"The last blast of the summer is an exuberantly cheesy action opus featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Rob Schneider as an improbable pair of gung-ho heroes."
‑ Joe Leydon, Variety
"One of Van Damme's best movies ever."
‑ Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times
"Jean-Claude Van Damme and Rob Schneider star. If you need more of a review than that, go ahead and give it a rental."
‑ Scott Weinberg, eFilmCritic.com
"The immediate reaction after seeing this movie aims to match it with a more appropriate title modeled from the direction and acting: Jack Off."
‑ Greg Muskewitz, eFilmCritic.com
"It bears an authentic brand name."
‑ Peter Keough, Boston Phoenix
"For hardcore Van Damme and Sparks fans only."
‑ Geoff Andrew, Time Out
"Almost worth attending for the experience of seeing how low film makers can sink in their never-ending quest to bilk the action picture audience out of a few hard-earned dollars."
‑ James Berardinelli, ReelViews
"Only for Van Damme's die-hard fans"
‑ Daniel Eagan, Film Journal International
"Knock Off could not be much worse if it tried to be."
‑ John R. McEwen, Film Quips Online
"Far too hard to follow for a beat-up movie."
‑ Christopher Null, Filmcritic.com
