Recorded live at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia, this 1998 production of Borodin's opera is performed by the Kirov Opera and Ballet under the direction of Valery Gergiev with choreography by Mikhail Fokine. The story depicts the struggle between the Russians and the Polovtsian nomads, Prince Igor's (Nikolai Putilin's) capture by (and escape from) Konchak (Vladimir Vaneev) and the love between Igor's son and Konchak's daughter.
