following the Standalone Complex TV series, Solid State Society is as deep, philosophical and surprising. It lacks the high end visual effects and magnificence of the previous GITS movies (that's the only possible let down here), but those are set apart from the Standalone Complex series. Essential to any fan of the TV series.

An excellent follow-on to where GITS: SAC 2nd Gig left off. "The Major" as ronin made for an excellent twist on the saga of anime's if not filmdom's most compelling badass heroine.
Unlike the original "Ghost in the Shell", I don't think this stands up well on its own, particularly for the uninitiated. There's a benefit to have seen the original and to have watched the series, particularly the 2nd Gig, before coming into this movie.
My recommendation for anyone new to Ghost in the Shell is to watch the original first. That film is a monument anyway, and should be seen by any and everyone. Once you've done that, you could jump into Solid State Society. But if you really REALLY want to enjoy it, Netflix the Stand Alone Complex and SAC 2nd Gig series then come back to this. -
An exciting follow up to the excellent 52 episode TV series, which was one of the best animes in recent years. There were many standout scenes, my favorite one was where two snipers face off against each other. Although the Stand Alone Complex storyline is considered an alternate reality to the world from the manga and original movie, I much preferred the SAC reality for Kusanagi's softer character design and character development of the other members of Section 9. It plays like an alternate version of the first GITS movie, with the re-use of the Puppeteer concept. Well, I still enjoy the first GITS movie, but SAC is way better.

I am a great fan of the Ghost in the Shell concept. This new film wasn't as philosophically challenging as the first two, but it was still an interesting and complex one. I will have to see it again because I didn't get all of it - japanese spoken and english subbed for a person whose mother tongue is Dutch is simply a bit much. Still, it is definately worth seeing, but you need to have seen the other two movies to understand the underlying principles a bit more.

I really enjoyed both Ghost in the Shell and GINS 2, but living in the UK I have not been able to watch the Stand Alone Complex TV stuff. Nevertheless I enjoyed this very much and didn't have real problems with working out who was who. Recommended, but don't start with this one

Strange, yet compelling to see an older, wiser Togusa being in charge.
Kusanagi is still as mysterious as ever, still with her own agendas altho she does bring back a few friendly faces ;)
I fucking love Ghost In The Shell man, if they released Stand Alone Complex: Toilet Roll I bet it would still be amazing -
Ghost in the Shell continues with another excellent installment. A series that just keeps getting better.

Another excellent piece of Stand Alone Complex, complete with all the characters built up over the series. Leaves you clueless and guessing right up until the end, when everything fits into place and the mystery makes sense. I'll be watching this again with the English dub; with any luck they can get the SAC voice-actors back in for this. And Batou driving a Ford GT just cemented his awesomeness. I just hope this isn't the last we'll see in the Stand Alone Complex series. Update: Yeah, the English version was just as good as I hoped it would be. It was cool to go back and rewatch something I haven't seen in aaaages, too.

This is the first movie spin off of the Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex Series, which itself was inspired by the original, ground-breaking Manga movie. This promises to be Uber! Roll on August!

This movie was very enthralling to watch. Although it still went through the same style of complicating things before a solution could be found, emotions will become tossed and turned as our favorite 3 main characters come back for one last hurrah.

This is by the best I've ever seen from Ghost In The Shell! I loved the first two series but haven't seen any of the movies. I am really glad I watched this movie! It made me happy! I would like to see a third season to the series.

another movie, continuing Stand Alone Complex series, still with the same case of Stand Alone Complex, but this time Togusa leads the party ...

I think Ghost in the Shell can do no wrong, like the previous movies and the tv series Solid State Society is a near perfect balance of action, complex plotting, and philosophical ideas.

The Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series has been one of my favorite animated shows of all time. This movie is a sequel to the 2 season series and it does not disappoint. First off it would be wise to actually watch or be familiar with the series (52 episodes) to get a full understanding of the character relationships and the setting of the film. It is possible to watch this without having seen the series, but it isn't highly recommended.
As usual the story is very interesting but it is also complex. You really need to pay attention otherwise you will be lost in all that is going on. As far as action goes there isn't a whole bunch, but there is a nice sequence near the end which includes the return of the lovable Tachikomas. Guns a blazing.
Visually this movie is spectacular and it is pretty similar to the 2nd gig series. It may be even a little sharper. The setting and story concept really allow for the staff to display their artistic talent. Fans of Motoko may be a little disappointed in the beginning because she is nearly non-existent, but she does make up for it in the second half of the movie.
Yoko Kanno does an excellent job with the soundtrack once again. She gives us some new songs as well as some recognizable originals from the series.
Fans of the series will get a kick out of everything this film has to offer while others will just enjoy the visuals.

I think I need to watch this a third time. I only saw the SAC series through the first season so I was a bit mystified at some parts.

once again, the ghost in the shell property shows it's high level of quality. not much in the movies or series that i can say is flawed, other than the trend to end before a full resolution is formed, but then again, that's part of it all, now ain't it? to keep you guessing. word to the wise, watch season one and two of the show before seeing this, or it might not make any sense to you. while the themes are universal, the plot is complex, and as such, a background on the setting is helpful. also, this movie ties to the show, but not the other movies, which follows a separate continuity.

Great great great movie. Too bad the cast is wrong since it's not in english yet. I want more to my Ghost in the Shell though.
