Manhattan psychologist Mark Powell becomes intrigued by the case of a man calling himself Prot who is brought in after being found in Grand Central Station behaving oddly and who insists that he is a visitor from the planet K-PAX. Powell becomes intrigued by Prot?s patient rationalism, even more so when Prot provides detailed information about the star system he comes from that only select astronomers could know. Powell is also certain that Prot has terrestrial origin and is determined to break through his delusion and find the truth. Playing Prot's doctor, Mark Burton, Bridges actually gets more screen time, but Spacey is definitely the headliner. At first Prot looks like a role written specifically for Spacey's signature giving the appearance of smirking without actually smirking but the part gains depth as the movie progresses. Spacey plays the sharp witted, seemingly innocent, cocky, smart mouthed character very well; and any one of those adjectives could describe the majority of the characters that he has played. There are some beautiful scenes thanks to director Iain Softley, and cinematographer John Mathieson.
Prot: "I had never been to a class BA-3 planet before.
Dr. Mark Powell: Class BA-3?
Prot: Early stage of evolution-future uncertain."
Very well done, beautifully shot, superbly acted. Kevin Spacey does the usual outstanding job (When hasn't he?)
The story is unique and very well written. Keeps you guessing til the end, and even then it's left up to you to decide what has really just happened.
One of the better movies I've seen, fun watch, entertaining, engrossing, worth it.
Why is a soap bubble round? Because it is the most energy efficient configuration. Similarly, on your planet I look like you; on K-Pax I look like a K-PAXian.
Precious bit of dialogue!
It was interesting, to say the least, but ultimately somewhat unsatisfying. I have it, but I don't remember how.
this movie is so motherfucking terrible, it made me kinda hate kevin spacey. forever. the worst part is that it thinks it's so goddamned cute, like it has a "message" or something. (it doesn't.)
perfectly made flick.
wonderful story, wonderful music and gorgeos screenplay.
a movie to watch again and again. :)
I think he was an alien came to earth and went into the other guys body! because he left and the other guy was left here on earth, but the woman he took with her was missing! because she isnt an alien, and she wasnt in anyones body but hers... so he was from K-pax, how else would he have knows the calculations out of his head
I say he was because the chick was missing from the hospital and he was supposed to take someone with him, Remember?
