Three women convinced that they each have the perfect husband are in for a big surprise in this musical comedy from Bollywood director Shaji N. Karun. The body of a man with no identification washes up on the beach in the coastal village of Kerala, and the authorities are initially at a loss to determine who he is. Policemen circulate sketches of the mystery man through the village as they look for leads, and in time three women step forward to identify him. All three women insist that they were married to the man, and as the police compare their stories it becomes obvious they were all wed to him at the same time, with none aware he was polygamous. With the help of the widows, the police piece together the remarkable story of Kutty Srank (Mammootty), a sailor who loved women and managed to woo and wed three very different ones at the same time -- a deaf-mute, a clever criminal, and a devout Buddhist -- while none was the wiser of her partners. Sailor of Hearts (aka Kutty Srank: The Sailor of Hearts) was an official selection at the 2010 Rotterdam International Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
