Anton Bitel, Little White Lies
It is a postmodern chaos of colour, cuteness and cruelty - but it is also a flat, one-note, substance-free affair whose unrestrained violence-and-vibrancy schtick has already been done to death by other recent Japanese splatterpunk.

A teenage Japanese schoolboy gets caught in a love-triangle from hell as he has a centuries old vampire and a stuck-up brat competing for his affections which eventually desends into a bloodbath involving both students and teachers. As fun as it was it could have been a lot stronger overall, and to be honest the humour was just a tad bit too silly for me. It definitely delivers blood and crazy creative gore effects which is the films main asset. The story could have been enhanced a bit more as it's very thin, even for a film like this and the characters needed more development. Still worth watching for lovers of Japanese splatter films, but I didn't find it near the best of them.

More blood in the first 5 minutes then is in the American Red Cross Blood donors Bus. This film is just crazy, above a vampire girl who moves to a new town and falls in love with a boy who is loved by another and she is made into the Frankenstein girl, No one can ever match Japanese Special effects, 3 1/2 stars.

You already know if you're the target audience for this or not. If you are, you'll enjoy it. Wacky, over the top, and lots of fun.

Anyone that doesn't like this film is probably the kind of person that stalks old women and kills their grandchildren. Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl is as insane as you would expect from such a title. It's up there in the camp charm factor with Yo-Yo Girl Cop, Oneechanbara, and Machine Girl. Does it make sense? Hardly, but after the opening scene of faces unraveling/pulled off, and arm swords made from blood, you'll know if this is your bag. From over-the-top satirical attacks on class cliques, to nonsensical fight sequences, this film has all the mad charm you could want. It's fun. Very fun.

While I enjoyed the cartoony violence and fountains of spraying blood the film overdoses on that wacky Japanese humor that I just don't get.

Yoshihiro Nishimura and Naoyuki Tomomatsu deliver another entry into the Japanese comedic gore genre with Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl. Both have worked on films like this before.
The title pretty much explains it all, as most of the story is a lot of nonsense. The movie does give background for certain elements and this is a lot of nonsense as well. Let's face it. All that matters is the bloody violence.

The over the top violence jumps right in at the beginning and continues in and out for the entire 85 minute picture. Blood spews all over the place and the deaths are all extremely violent and unrealistic. Nevertheless, it is hilarious.

The characters themselves are wacky and so is the acting. Yukie Kawamura and Eri Otoguro are delightful to watch. They are gorgeous after all. The lead male, Takumi Saito, is a let down. Emotionless and bland are 2 words that come to mind. As for the rest of the overacting, the supporting cast hits the nail on the head.

Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl successfully entertains in its own freaky way. Put on a raincoat and go check it out.

Mental Japanese Horror comedy. When a pretty female vampire gives the boy she secretly loves some chocolate and he takes a bite, little does he know he's taken a gulp of her blood and pretty soon he will become a vampire to. Problem is, another girl is in love with the boy and wants revenge. This is from Manga so you can expect almost cartoonish levels of mental with plenty of gore and fighting. What this also has is a wrist cutting gang of girls and a gang of Japanese girls who want to be black so badly they wear masks, dress and (over)act like black girls. As you might have guessed, this isn't for the easily offended and the conservatives amongst you might end up in tears, writing to the national newspapers if you see this but for the more liberal minded amongst us, this is very entertaining and funny if over the top and something you think that only Japan could get away with. The gore looks brilliant but is for hardened stomachs only. And, like Tokyo Gore Police before it, the thing that sets this apart is the story, the acting and, well everything that keeps it from being just some video nasty type film. If you loved Let the Rght One In and Thirst but wanted more gore, are sick of Twilight and want a little love story thrown in but don't want to sit through shit like Valentines Day, He's Just Not That into You, Just Go With It etc then check this out. You never know, you might just love it!

Another winner in the new wave of Japanese gore/horror/comedy flicks. Unlike the far inferior Guinea Pig films and other nasty gore flicks of the past (Naked Blood, Red Room, Eat the Schoolgirl, etc) the audience doesn't feel quite as dirty after viewing. In fact, this is quite the crowd pleaser. Where Tokyo Gore Police may have worn out it's welcome by having a 2 hour plus running time, VG vs FG is a lean, mean 85 minutes of fun, comedy and gore. Plenty of entertainment with a good cast and inventive set pieces. A must see if you are a fan of Meatball Machine, Machine Girl or Tokyo Gore Police.
