Critic Reviews

  • Jonathan Holland, Variety

The pic's thrills remain consecutive rather than cumulative, and fail to resonate.

  • Chris Hewitt (St. Paul), St. Paul Pioneer Press

I'm not sure "La Cara Oculta" can stand up to much scrutiny - there's at least one gaping plot hole - but it's plenty of fun while its 93 minutes are zipping by.

While not predictable outright, it's not mysterious enough either to be called an outstanding flick. Works fine on a note of an average thriller. Worth a shot if you're running out of options.

What begins as an apparent ghost story full of the most basic, worn-out clichés soon turns out to be an ironic, claustrophobic and original idea that cleverly plays with the conventions of the genre - but ending though on an unsatisfying note.
