I wish I could watch every movie ever made but I sadly don't have the time. I'm not interested in this movie because I don't think I'll like it or don't know enough about it to think I might like it. I may still end up seeing it some day though.
Very light comedy, but it is so enjoyable to watch! I love it when Pierre Richard and Gerard Deparideu co-star a movie!
LA CHÈVRE (1981)
directed by Françis Veber
starring Pierre Richard, Gérad Depardieu, Corynne CharbitDo you remember Pure Luck starring Martin Short and Danny Glover ? Well if you do, its a remake of La chèvre but if you dont, well, heres the plot. After his very unlucky-slash-clumsy daughter, a rich man hires a private detective and a man who suffers the same lack of luck with the same clumsiness as her to find her trace.Françis Veber is a playwright. He always has the same kinda premise with the same type of characters with only a few changes. Its always a dummy with either a strong dude or an intellectual. Here, its a strond dude, played by Gérard Depardieu, who was mostly known as a serious actor back then. Pierre Richard, a famous French comedian, is the dummy, but of course he doesnt know. The clumsiness of his character will take them from one place to another and all coincidences will put them on the right path, which is always disbelived by Depardieu's character as a «magic trick» of destiny.
The humor here is quite easy. One simply joke after another. Its not great but its somehow effective. La chèvre seems a bit dated and the jokes arent well-punched. Basically it didnt age well enough to still be as hilarious as it was once considered.
Richard and Depardieu are pretty much flawless with their roles, which makes the film, at least, still effective today.
Its not a very clever film, but its kinda well-crafted, even if its easy to make. It works, its all that counts. If you want to see a real good Veber film, I suggest you see Le dîner de con also known as The dinner game.
P.S. La chèvre means «the goat» but there are no goat in the film and it must simply refer to a French expression that I dont know, even if Im French-Canadian.
Belle paire que font ces deux là! Malgré tout, je trouve que le film était moins bon que les suivants (Le dîner de cons notamment). Depardieu est vraiment charmant.
This board looks lonely. Be the first to talk about "La Chèvre (The Goat)" !
