I loved this movie. Though a budget movie, it is done in a understated fashion, and works well with the types of people in the plot (low income people) the budget flick adds to that authenticity, and charm. The film is entirely in French. This little french fishing village is in desperate need of a doctor, and they are listening to a visiting Doctor's conversations to find out what he likes....and they try to replicate that for him. The movie is hysterical.
A charming French-Canadian movie about a very small town where everyone's out of work. In order to get a badly needed factory built there, they need to sign on a town doctor. The antics they go to are pretty comical. I was told this movie compares to the TV program 'Northern Exposure' so I rented it for my husband because he really liked that show. He wasn't crazy about reading the subtitles but he thought this movie was funny in spite of that.
Sometimes the simple story is the best. In "La grande séduction" a little village try to find a doctor so they can have a factory to create job. It's look almost sad like this but the movie is an amazing comedy.
Light-hearted French Canadan film that made me laugh out loud several times. Of course I don't know of any of the actors, but the acting was very good and the characters were realistic.
Totally charming French-Canadian movie that charms without being saccharin. A tiny dried up fishing village has the opportunity to have a factory built (providing the villagers with much needed employment), but only if the village has a doctor - one that will sign to stay for 5 yrs. They get only one response from hundreds of requests they sent from a young doctor from the city who decides to stay for a month to see how he likes living there, and it's up to the town to convince him to stay. I laughed and smiled all the way. I know I would have stayed.
Remember the old TV show Northern Exposure from15 yrs ago?..this time it's in a Quebec fishing village - so not EXACTLY a new thing - but a good turn to a good ol' thing.
Lovely, warm "community" comedy that the British are so well know for. Who'd of thought than an English speaking Quebecer could pen a terrific script in French...
This is a Made-in-Québec production, and I think it's one of the best. It's funny and it's so sweet! Just imagine a super-rich and a little stuck up doctor being stuck in a microscopic (I might exagerate just a little) village in the middle of nowhere. Very nice.
I love this movie. It's hilarious. My French isn't good enough to watch it without subtitles, but it's a highly enjoyable movie to watch with subtitles. I also think it's awesome that it's Canadian. See it.
