This is the 1st film I've watched completely in French- and it was very funny indeed. Plays well on old wartime stereotypes I think.
When I say "totally in French"- there are English characters, but what they say is subtitled into French anyway.
One thing that made me laugh within about 2mins was the British general who had the best "BIG GENERAL MOUSTACHE" in cinematic history.
It was a bit 'Allo 'Allo, in that there was a very strange mix of French and English. ANd French with some extraordinary stiff-upper-lip accents.
But, this film is amazing because it includes THE best thing I have EVER watched- German soldiers boucing around tables on their chairs...I would recommend you see this film just for that sweet moment.
Probably one of the funniest French films ever, and certainly the funnies one featuring Louis de Funes. Highly recommended, but very hard to get on DVD.
