A painfully dull, boring, pretentious, ridiculous piece of drivel. Bryce Dallas Howard is so ugly and not fun to look at. How fitting that she has not one, not two, but three male names. And all Shyamalan thought to show of her naked body was her foot. I'd be hard pressed to think of a movie with a wider array of unlikable, unbelievable characters. All the characters buy into and accept the craziest, most ridiculous propositions without any hesitation. We as the audience aren't given any incentive to believe the unbelievable, Shyamalan just expects us to. This movie made me want to kick Shyamalan in the balls. The thing about this movie is that it was a bedtime story that he told to his daughters. I think that idea translated to the screen really well, because it made me want to go right to sleep. Permanently. One of the worst movies I've ever seen.
What in the name of all the superficial creatures that exist in the movies, did Shyamalan thought about this? It's a fairytale about a fairytale, I got it. But where all this came from? And why? And what about that one scene that had to be somewhere in there, explaining why Cleveland believed all this from the very beginning? Oh, too bad. This film would have been great instead of fantasy, drama and a beautiful Bryce Dallas Howard thrown all over the place.
Oooh what this film could have been. It just didn't make the mark. I hope M. Night can pull his head out of his ass in time to not completely ruin his career.
i lyked it alot, thought to be just that little bit surreal and not to long so-as to train away from the plot on another distraction. I could be a little bias and usually are for my reviews though a self proclaimed water baby from qld. coast i just loved the fear/thrill i have of get from those confined spaces underwater lol not the pretty maiden/siren
A pool of mysteries, but it still doesn't make sense. Giamatti gave an outstanding performance though, but his talent is just thrown into the trashbin.
This fairy tale produces some of the greatest quotes and morals that a movie can offer. It's truly an amazing and creative film. The base of the movie, the morals beyond it, and the creative edge is all worth a five star rating and the reason you should watch this film...
However, a few bad actors and a little bit of bad decisions keeps it from being more then it could of been. For instance a swimming pool? That was a bit odd - could of been a lake, or beach, or something more then apartment swimming pool. Low budget, a few bad actors, and the entire movie taking place in one little rinky dink patio isolates it's potential.
But if you look beyond the few flaws that the movie brings with it - you will have yourself another classic fairy tale on your hands.
This movie was a big disappiontment it goes no where. it's obvious that Mr. Shyamalan thinks a lot of himself 1. to write himself into the movie the way he did and 2. for him to go against everyones better judgment and make the movie.
Picture, if you will, a world where real people and fairy tail characters can meet each other.
That is Lady in the Water: fairy tail meets reality.
All right, now you must be thinking, 'What a boring movie this one must be! What do I care about Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, or the likes?'
Well, this is really not a fairy tail movie per se. It's more like a 'cruel reality undermines the fairy tail concept' movie. And it is very interesting to see how both worlds are so cleverly intertwined.
I really enjoyed this film, but I have to say it is one of those that you either love or hate.
In our global village, we have lost our sensitivities as soon as we relied merely on reality and forget the importance of allegory, metaphor and story!
I don't mean to judge this movie, it's full of feelings and some pathetic hope that there are a few believers left in this world who think the mankind deserves salvation, but let's face it - it's a pure fairy tale.
What's for sure, I wasn't expecting some dramatic experience with a badly pulled happy end, but on the other side, I sincerely wish this would make some of us think about the consequences of everything we do and where this world seems to be going to.
I had very high hopes for this movie, but it turned out to be kinda boring. If your looking for a scary movie don't see this cause it's not scary at all and I get scared easily.
This film was magnificent in more than one way. The storytelling is absolutely similar as if it were told to a child. Story is such a mystical character and the way the story unfolds is stunning.
The ending is extremely compelling. One of the best endings I've seen yet. Overall, brilliant film.
I can't believe Shyamalan directed this. I was soo disappointed but don't let it turn you off him or Bryce Dallas Howard or Paul Giamatti- you should always love them!
Fairytale/bedtime story from M. Night Shyamalan.Cleveland Heap is a landlord who discovers a water nymph/narf in his pool and finds out she is trapped between this world and hers but to get back she needs help, not just from Cleveland but from those around him to.Where Unbreakable was like a comic book come to life, this is a bedtime story come to life and Paul Giamatti puts in a great performance as Cleveland, the put upon landlord.Ok,so Shyamalan isn't that geat as one of the residents, neither are some of the other actors for that matter. But thats a minor grumble as this is just about the big, enchanting story thats unfolding and in that respect its a very good film.
Lovely. Once again, such real acting and true characters dumped into a modern-day fairy tale. Just proves that you don't need a love story to make a fairy tale. Gorgeous.
I don't know why, but this movie kept being it my mind long after I watched. Normally my mind goes off movies 10 mins after they are finished xD. So yeah, It must have something special.
i got this movie thinking it would be you know, more of a horror story where like the "lady in the water" would attack every1 and stuff. it was a good story, just a let down
What the HELL is up with the slamming of this film???...I remember at the time...we were debating what movie to see, and at the time people were writing some really nasty reviews and it was something like 2% on the rotten tomatoes metre?.anyway, I said Listen, this is a Shyamalan?*everything* this guy has done?*everything* has been great (or at least everything ive seen so far from him) it's just a automatic thing, you go along to see his films no matter what, its like default setting.
Its like this, Shyamalan film comes out = go and see it
So we went along and saw it, and damn me was it not probably his best film. It was freaking awesome, a very very funny film, beautifully made, great characters and genuinely funny.
Now why it seems to be hated by many I just dont understand, Im never *going* to understand. So there it is.
this movie sucked..i expected something better...having her stucked in a compound in the first place is the first thing that i didn't like in the movie..it's a load of crap
My favorite M. Night... movie. The story of a girl really, who's come from the water as part of a seemingly mythical fairy tale. One where her survival from a shadow hiding beast will write the final chapters. Decent acting, a good cast an an awesome story pull you into this movie and you find yourself wanting more.
M. Night continues to make very pretty movies. The set is too bland for me, they could have had it exciting at the same times as having it normal. But it's still a very pretty movie.
A really decent modern day fairytale, of which there are sadly too few. Most people who went to see this at the cinema were probably waiting for a twist (as they did the happening, jeez people not every MNS movie has to have a fricking twist)
Its slow, but a really engaging story, with a fantastic scene at the end (eagle through the pool?!?). Definately worth watching if you like your fantasy but dont expect too much action or you'll be dissapointed.
