I really adored the preformances given by the main actors in this movie and I think the only thing I would change would be the nude sceans - because yes, they were married, but no, I didn't need to see all that carried into the fantastic dieolg. Really a fantastic movie that I'd see agian.
I love Helena Bonham-Carter, Carey Elwes, costume dramas/historical based films so of course I loved this movie. Keep in mind though, it is only *based* on true history, it has been romanticized and is not actually historically accurate.
Historical dramas do tend to put me to sleep. I only bought this to complete my Cary Elwes collection, but it soon became a favourite. H B Carter and Elwes are both fantastic, the script is very well-written, the music is fitting, and it's not a minute too long. If it happened anything like this film suggests, then Lady Jane Grey is a great idol of mine, and for sure the only figure of history that I'm at all interested in. A genuine artwork and no too great an emphasis can be put on Helena Bonham Carter's outstanding performance...
Just really enjoyed this film. Portrayals are fabulously done...one of my favorite historical based films. The ending, while tragic and sad is also inspiring. Ambition for power can be repugnant and bring out the worst in some people...at least Jane had Guilford. History can be cruel, and truth is sometimes stranger than fiction.
Its really fascinating to see Helena Bonham Carter so young. Unfortunate she spends all her time in Tim Burton movies now. Very well acted, decently accurate story of Queen Jane's reign, granddaughter of Henry VII's sister. Unfortunately, very sad.
This movie was amazing...but what else would you expect with such awesome leads as Helena Bonham Carter and Cary Elwes? "Lady Jane" is a beautiful telling of the unfortunate life of England's little known "nine day queen" Lady Jane Grey. A must see for any fan of the tumultuous Tudor Britain.
This movie took creative license with history - Lady Jane Grey and Guilford, her husband by arranged marriage, never really fell in love - but it made for an enjoyable movie! Jane's staunch refusal to recant her Protestant faith at the command of her cousin, Mary I (later to earn the name Bloody Mary) however, is historically accurate.
a historical drama that actually has some teeth to it. teenage angst at its finest. a beautiful true story of a queen who lasted only nine days because of her unwillingness to pander to anyone. she was strong-willed & just plain strong. it's also an evolutionary love story, considering the pair initially hated each other, but were forced into marriage at such a young age. transcendant!!!
The best love film of all time, for two reasons 1)CARY ELWES is just soo cute!!!!! and 2) because it is based on a true story....... wonderful. stunning... wow
I alwasy love watching this film. watching the love form between the two characters as they are thrown together by pushy parents. There is a tear in my eye at the end of most viewings. This is a beautiful story.
i absolutely love the whole henry VIII thing and the 6 wives and his kids and the throne being fought over and the whole thing so id like to see this movie
Traitors, elaborote coups, insurrections, martyrdom and love till death make this my all time favourite romance ever! Trevor Nunn got it right when he picked my favourite actor, Helena Bonham Carter, to play feisty Lady Jane. Cary Ewles is the sort of guy any girl would fall for when he joins her in death rather than betray their beliefs... the price for them both to have a pure love away from the political and religious game they've been placed in. Everytime I tell myself I won't cry when I watch this movie, but I do when she says "The next time I see your face, I want it to be for eternity". Yeah...i'm a hopeless romantic and I love a good history/costume drama.
Very moving story of a most admirable girl who gets thrown into being Queen of England for 9 days. Whether the love story is true or not, it is still beautiful to watch play out! ^_^
Beautiful, if MAJORLY historically inaccurate. Their portrayal of Edward VI in particular bothered me, even though the actor was adorable. He was hardly as frail and dependant on Northumberland as they would lead us to believe, and FAR more intelligent than they give him credit for. That being said, the costumes are amazing, Cary Elwes is as cute as ever, and I must say that Helena Bonham Carter was excellent.
Cary Elwes captivates and Helena Bonham Carter gives a solid performance... although, the film is historically inaccurate in a few places, it is still moving and tremendously well done...
