Every one's gotta love this one, the makers of Shrek did because they copied it, in a sort of fashion. Michelle Pfeiffer is beautiful as usual and Rutger makes a dashing hero.
It's not a perfect movie but I'm inclined to forget and forgive that because I'm so fond of it,for reasons that go beyond its cinematographic values.Great story,a sword and sorcery type of tale, wrapped in a romantic aura ( together forever yet ever apart *sigh*),appealing characters, terriffic lead cast ( Rutger Hauer is perfect as the strong and silent, brave and handsome, noble but oucast hero,Michelle Pfeiffer looks pure, etheric and beautiful beyond words, her character has that rare quality of a perfect balance between strength and vulnerability),good supporting cast, some wonderful locations. It has magic, romance, adventure,humour...I've heard complaints about the 'horrendous' score...I must say I re-watched recently and I don't remember the score ,I was totally absorbed into the story.
Brilliant, i saw this when i was in my early teens and it was just on the cusp of having enough intelligence to fully understand the drama and characterisation but as i still retain now the tiny glimmer of the belief in something magical in the world. And great performances especially from young brodrick.
This superb Fantasy adventure starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Matthew Broderick tells the tale of two lovers doomed to be together as during the day she is transformed into a hawk and at night he is turned into a wolf
two lovers separated by spell which leaves them divided by night and day.
Isabeau aka michelle pfeiffier is a Hawke by day at the side of Capt. Etienne Navarre aka rutger hauer who becomes wolf at night while she turns back into Isabeau; a lady.
What a love story
This is one of my favourites. It's rather old and the cinematography isn't exactly incredible (also it's a bit cheesy), but the storyline is very much that of an epic fairytale. I can't help but always feel like watching this film.
This is a beautiful fairytale. Anyone, young or old, should see it, atleast once. It has an evil curse, a hero, a comedic sidekick, a dastardly villain, a strong yet bound damsel in distress, everything.
I like this movie and think it's an excellent adventure movie. hauer works well as the tortured warrior and the rest of the characters do great jobs pushing the story forward.
This one i have also seen before is a really good movie and the lovestory is a good one. They are always together Captain Navarre and Lady Isabeau but still so far away. Do to a curse she is a hawke by day and he is a black wolf. They have come back to the plays were they got the curse to kill the Bishop that cursed them. They meet Phillipe Gastone a young man that has escaped from a dungeon. He help them on there way. He don`t know about there curse then he first meets them but in time he become their best friend. A very good adventure movie. :)
excellent Medieval romance ably directed by Richard Donner "The Omen,"
"Superman: The Movie"). Great cast of as-yet-unknown actors headed by Matthew Broderick and Tony winner John Wood, complemented by an excellent score make for an exciting romp.
I totally forgot about this movie! My friend put it on and I was totally mesmerized again. The music is a little weird but I guess a lot of things were in the 80s.
Quite possibly the most beautiful, angst-ridden, fairy tale love story ever conceived of in the mind of human beings. 80s production values and all.
My very first exposure to Rutger Hauer, which is probably not such a great thing as this was an anomoly in his career, but he should do this kind of role more often. He's damn good at it. And the interactions between Mouse and the Father are priceless.
I fell in love with Rutger Hauer after seeing this film. It's a brilliant storey, greatest love storey every told, played by a brilliant selection of actors that just seem to mould together and do a bang up job telling of this storey. A MUST SEE FILM.
