plot was similar to brokeback mountain. the acting was restrained but good, and there were some great moments, but overall i found it a tad too slow-paced and quiet, and it didn't touch me as much as i'd hoped it would.

Must all gay romances end in tragedy? The writers and directors here try to force the emotions of the audience. In the beginning, Chen is pretty loathesome, but we fall in love with the innocent, naive Lan Yu. By the middle of the film, we're goaded to care for Chen, but given no real reason other than his own poor choices and his obsession with Lan Yu. I guess I just didn't get it. Don't young gay men ever find nice guys? Give me Formula 17 instead.

Pretty well-done. I liked the historical backdrop to the plot. Lan Yu really sacrifices everything for his belief in their love. Warning: Not a happy ending but happy endings are just where the story teller decides to stop the story...

The movie is a bit confusing, but it is still a pretty story. Especially at the end, it gets really beautiful. But before that, everything is really confusing.

Lan Yu- a controversial love affair between a man and a student. On the first night they met each other, he teaches him how to make love. Then they carry on the relationship til the day he got married. He meets him again in a car park years later and he was divorced because he can't give happiness to women. Finally the student helps him by settling his debt due to- Love.

Ending? It is a subjective matter. You may or may not like it. Most of the homosexual stories end like this, either sad of left something for us to think about.

The theme song Ni Zhen Me She De Wo Nan Guo by Huang Bin Yuan is very fit for the feel in the movie.

This is a simple story to let us understand better about comtemporary homosexual relationship in Asian countries.

Two big thumbs up for the director's idea because he puts the two leads staying together in real life to let them develop each other's relationship although ain't queer. This is to enhance the fiming progress.

I've many friends said I look like the second leading actor Hu Jun, am I? He stars in Infernal Affairs II as the sacrifying boss of Anthony Wong.

Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards: Best Actor: Hu Jun and Film of Merit. 11 Hong Kong Film Awards nominations including Best Picture, Director, Actor (Hu Jun, Liu Ye), Supporting Actress (Su Jin), Screenplay, Art Direction, Cinematography, Costume Design, Film Editing, and Original Film Score.

Glitter Award- Best Feature, Golden Bauhinia Awards- Best Actor (Hu Jun), Winner of 4 Golden Horse (deemed Chinese Oscar equivalent) Best Actor (Liu Ye), Director, Film Editing and Adapted Screenplay.
