    THE MOVIE OUTLINE


    "Here is a movie adapted from a best-selling Indonesian novel. It took 40 days of filming on Belitong Island, Bangka-Belitung province. Laskar Pelangi, the novel, was written by Andrea Hirata in 2005, based on the writer's own experiences. It is about an inspiring teacher and her 10 students in the poverty-stricken Kampung Gantong in Belitong. The poor condition of their school building does not dampen their high spirits and hopes for a better future. "

    INDONESIA'S BIGGEST CINEMATIC ACHIEVEMENT


    I believe there's a huge responsibility to bear in adapting the number 1 best selling novel. The book was certainly popular and everybody worship this work of Andrea Hirata. I didn't expect anything too spectacular from the movie, because as spectacular the book was, it supposedly be a letdown. I haven't been more mistaken.

    Laskar Pelangi is no doubt, THE BEST INDONESIAN MOVIE ever made. Yes, it beats the Denias: Singing On The Cloud, and yes, it beats The Verses of Love (Ayat-Ayat Cinta). It's a 5 STAR MASTERPIECE in Indonesia, but still deserves 4.5 - 5 STAR in Hollywood stage. The movie contains social and educational issues and strongly declare that everyone needs education and everyone deserves to be educated. We can learn many life lessons from the movie quotes.

    I can't stop saying that Laskar Pelangi is a marvelous picture. As a matter of fact, I can't even name a flaw! The casts are perfect, as they are all first class Indonesian actors. Credit, credit, and credit for Cut Mini Theo since she brought such a strong performance as a determined teacher. Author Andrea Hirata is a genius for certain since the storyline is beautiful, touching, and engaging at the same time. So get yourself boxes of Kleenex and if you feel nothing, it might be you're half a human. Thanks to director Riri Riza and producer Mira Lesmana for spelling the magic to the movie and saved it from being a letdown. Even the author was amazed with the crew's job and state the movie is better than his original writing. And in additions, the movie exposed the BREATHTAKING scenery in Belitong Island. A scenery you never see in any other places.

    A testimony : Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono left a national meeting about economical crisis at 10 p.m only to witness this big motion picture Laskar Pelangi on the silver screen.

    I think The Oscar should consider this as an Oscar caliber for cathegory Best Foreign Language Film.

    Riri Riza gagal mem-visualisasikan esensi novel bagus ini. Alex Komang hanya menjadi cameo padahal ia memiliki seluruh potensi untuk memerankan ayah Lintang yang digambarkan sebagai lelaki cemara angin....lelaki sederhana, duda beranak banyak yang percaya bahwa pendidikan adalah ...( read more)jalan keluar dari kemiskinan....pemeran Lintang seharusnya bisa diarahkan untuk menampilkan semangat juang, kenestapaan, marginalitas namun kukuh tak terkalahkan oleh kemiskinan.

    Namun ditengah kemarau film bagus, Mizan dan Miles harus diapresiasi untuk inisiatif ini...

    Riri you could do better with "Sang Pemimpi"....

    this movie makes me appreciate all opportunity to go to school.

    This movie makes me feel like a dastard to face the world, and in the same time... it makes me feel courageous to face everything might happen in my life.

    it makes me sad and cry, but it also makes me laugh.

    this movie, was a great Indonesian movie that i ever watch. I proud of you guys, who makes this story to be a movie. I've been watching it twice. GOD JOB !!!
