Last Orders

Bob Hoskins, David Hemmings, Helen Mirren, Michael Caine, Ray Winstone

When one of a group of lifelong friends dies, his buddies are left to carry out his last wishes: to take his ashes and dispose of them off the pier in the seaside town of Margate. As their sentimental...( read more  read more... ) journey begins and their own emotional mysteries unfold, they try to come to terms with Jack's death by reliving their lives with him. Flashbacks of the group's younger days shed light on their relationships, providing insights into their long-buried secrets. Meanwhile, with the lads speeding across the Kent countryside in a shiny Mercedes, Jack's wife undertakes her own very significant journey. As the pilgrimage turns into a pub-crawl the men discover that through it all, it's your friends who break your heart - and your friends who mend it. Tears are replaced by laughter and then just as quickly followed by more poignant memories.

with bob hoskins, michael caine, helen mirren and ray winstone in it you're gonna be hard-pushed to say it's not gonna have great acting in it. i was watching this one late last night so can't recall every detail about it. the cinematography was very serene. the best thing was ho...( read more)w all the big names acted really well together. sometimes you can shove a load of big names in a movie for the sake of it and it totally sucks (oceans 11..lol, i'm gonna get headhunted by some people for saying that)

A lot of this film's credit is owed to the wonderful, wonderful book. And one rarely sees so many great actors in one film - simply natural and effortless. The ending is most maturely handled - not one bit over-sentimental or uncomfortable. And the final shot, the gliding towards the invisible hands of the oblivious wind... beautiful and profound.

I'd give 3.75 to this movie. Because of the ensemble performance. Caine, Hoskins and Mirren were awesome, and the other actors were all great too. The ending of Last Orders is touching.
