Marcel Levesque (Gilbert Sicotte) sells cars at a dealership in a small town in Quebec. Now in his late 60s, Levesque has spent most of his adult life as a salesman, and has been "employee of the month" at his shop every month for an impressive sixteen years. Levesque can't imagine doing much besides selling automobiles, but soon he might have to: his town has gone into a severe decline after the paper mill that was their biggest employer went out of business, and while Levesque still has the drive and the gift of gab, the community is going broke and no one has the money to buy a car. Widowed Levesque still has the love of his daughter (Nathalie Cavezzali) and grandson (Jeremy Tessier) to sustain him, but that may not be enough for long. Le Vendeur (aka The Salesman) was the first feature film from director Sebastien Pilote. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Rick Groen, Globe and Mail
Marcel is not a complicated soul. I mustn't give away the climax, but it forces him to look beneath his public mask.

Greg Quill, Toronto Star
A masterful observation of ordinary people squeezing what they need to get by out of unforgiving circumstances.
