I actually rather enjoyed this film. It?s been given really bad reviews, which I can't help but feel is a little unfair. The direction is great, the acting is spot on and the script is really, really good! C'mon people, it?s really not that bad!

I'm a big fan of George Clooney's other directorial outings but Leatherheads just didn't cut it. I applaud him for trying to make not only another period piece but a movie that echoed the classic screwball comedies of the 30s and 40s. Leatherheads has its amusing moments (the spe...( read more)

A lovely and amusing film which really looks the buisness but is unfortunatley rather dull haha. As said the look of the film is truely brilliant, the costumes and sets all look great and really stand out.
The casting was very good, Clooney shows his quite surprisingly good prat ...( read more) -

A movie I found unromantic and not overly funny; it had a few giggles but nothing more. The first 45 minutes was actually quite entertaining and then it all just lost its way. The 3 leads are good in their roles though.

Critic Reviews
More amiable than witty and relying heavily on the likability and charm of its lead actors, Leatherheads scores more points as a retro romantic comedy than a football saga. full review
Leatherheads is not that good a movie, and yet it would be hard to enjoy saying anything nasty about it. full review
Without anything else on its mind but to entertain, Leatherheads throws the equivalent of a cinematic touchdown. full review
Everyone's too mannered, and most everything's too slow. Especially for a throwback. full review
Leatherheads a comedy of stock setups and kooky digressions in which nothing really comes to a head, and running at close to two hours, it lacks the essential brevity of the form. full review
To call something a screwball comedy instead of just a comedy is to add an extra level of farcical expectations all too easy to not meet. full review
Leatherheads labors so strenuously to approximate some of the old screwball spirit of the '30s and '40s that it winds up in traction. full review
Drawing from movies rather than life, Leatherheads often feels like a likable exercise in retro style rather than a film with a compelling reason to exist on its own. full review
Leatherheads is most on its game when it's in the game, and in the zone of Clooney's no-bull affection for the faces of his actors. full review
