Legend Reviews and Ratings

It was the director's cut, and while it's still not an amazing film it's much more solid and entertaining and fulfilling than the theatrical US version, aside from the scores. I really wish Scott would have left the Tangerine Dream score in there as I find the Goldsmith score to ...( read more)be a bit boring.

Booyah. This is my kind of crazy... hoaky but crazy. I get a big kick outa watchins goblins wielding crossbows and water witches dispaying their brute strength. Fun and mystically charged.

This is one of the old standby movies of my childhood, still dear to me, still magical and enchanting.

I'll write more later, but for now I feel I should mention that the Director's Cut is very different from the original US theatrical version -- I liked the new scenes and all, ...( read more)but I REALLY missed the Tangerine Dream music, it's a big part of what I associate the film with. Goldsmith's soundtrack is fine, but there were so many scenes that I found myself waiting for the song that should accompany it, but it never came, and just felt empty, like there was a vital piece missing... especially at the end, when I was waiting for "Loved By The Sun", and it was just this unrelated and underwhelming instrumental piece....

One of the few pre-LOTR fantasy films that's able to work on multiple levels, and unlike most of its 80's counterparts Legend feels like an actual, inhabited world, lived in by "real" people (and not just puppets). Instead of stopping every five minutes to introduce a wacky new c...( read more)haracter the story simply moves forward as though we were outsiders looking on.

A great fantasy film. Wonderful performances, including Tim Curry and Tom Cruise, a lovely tale with both light and dark. Starts slowly, but it's worth the buildup.

  • August 10, 2009
One of favorite fantasy films! I love this movie so much. Tim Curry is an excellent villain and the movie itself a technical masterpiece. The Director's Cut is even better, but the domestic theatrical version with the Tangerine Dream score still excellent.

i want to watch this if this a nice film too.
  • July 29, 2009
Well done for the 80s relating to special effects and costume design but the story would be much better if I were young again and actors didn't have to be convincing. Tim Curry as Darkness saved it from being unbearable as an adult and the story is better than the movie Labyrinth...( read more), of which this reminded me.

A good fantasy movie all around. Could have been a little bit more action, but its still a good tale and the music is good on both tracks that were used too. Lets have and see more imagination in other movies like this in the future.

Another one of my favourite fantasy movies from the 80's. Classic tale of Good vs Evil. I love how dark the movie is. Sheer classic.

Legend is a Classic, a classic in the sense that if you're a fan of Fantasy or if your ''heart beats fierce and free'' then this is a true fantasy masterpiece. Let's look at this films pedigree Ridley Scott had just delivered the yardstick by which Sci-Fi is now and the standard ...( read more)by which any if its ilk will be jugged Blade Runner (1982 see previous review) and 3 years prior to that had defined the Sci-Fi/ Horror genre with (1979 Alien review coming soon). So Mr. Scott steps into the fantasy realm in 1985 with ''LEGEND'' (1985 ''Top 10 of All Time '' *2*).

In this case Fantasy can be defined as the imagination unrestricted by reality, realized with skill and a passion for the material. Yes with Jack the hero portrayed by (Tom Cruise ? pre-Scientology), Lili mischievously played by Mia Sara (a year prior to Ferris Bueller's Day Off) and a career defining roll as darkness (a.k.a "persona non grata", take my word for it you won?t need a Dr to be Frank I will go no Furter) by Tim Curry. Seriously you will be hard pressed to find a more awe inspiring setting nor a band of adventurers more alive then with Legend. This film still stands the test of time and technology, this one still has the faire magic.

    ''Top 10 of All Time '' *2*

    Tom Cruise as an elf?

    Tim Curry as THE DEVIL??

    Yes, please.
  • June 10, 2009
For a bad guy, Tim Curry kinda' came off as a big wuss. Not Tom's best work and ugh...just not worth watching more than once if at all.

The most beautiful and visually impressive film ever made. Legend is a dark fairy tale that will leave you absolutely breathless and spellbound. Ridley Scott beautifully captures each scene. There is not a single second in this film that isnt completely breathtaking. This film is...( read more) my all time favorite film. Tom Cruise is phenomenal in his best role of his career, which is surprising since this film was made before he became an international superstar. Mia Sara is beautiful, she is painfully adorable. Tim Curry is awesome as the villain. Legend is a film so spellbinding and mesmerizing, I couldnt believe my eyes. This film is a masterpiece.

Ridley Scott is one of my favorite filmmakers. He can clearly make a film like no other director in the history of film. Tom Cruise may be disliked for things that happen in his personal life but he is a superb actor who brings a lot to his characters. Mia Sara is one of the most beautiful actresses I have ever seen. She took my breath away every time I saw her. Tim Curry is a wicked delight in this film. His performance is spectacular and totally mind-blowing. The performances are sensational. This film is a classic.

Legend is simply the greatest film ever made and my favorite movie of all time. I have not one bad thing to say about this film. The films only downfall that I can think of, is that it only lasted for about two hours and not a lifetime. Legend is a film unlike any other.
