"As férias do Sr. Hulot" Comédia sem falas sem ser mudo, no estilo Mr. Bean. Não é completamente desagradável, mas não é meu tipo de filme. Acho chato esse gênero. Esse é menos irritante do que Mr. Bean.
Tati sets up this whole film as a canvas for his unique style of physical comedy. He's completely free of the constraints of traditional plot structure, which might annoy some viewers. It's a string of vignettes with lovely sight gags superbly staged and executed with wonderful subtlety. He meanders fluidly from setup to setup, and the result is calm and pleasant and hilarious and beautiful.
You could argue that the French have their collective tête up their collective derrière where Jerry Lewis is concerned (I wouldn't, but you could). There is, however, no question they were right about the genius of Jacques Tati -- who, in a perfect world, would have a place in the comedic pantheon seated between Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. Yes, this is a 54-year old black and white French comedy with no dialogue to speak of. And I defy you to sit through it with a straight face.
Too charming for words, then again, who needs words when you have M. Hulot, the clumsy silent clown? There is almost no plot and dialogue, just a series of events at the seaside resort in Normandy. Tati's humor is very restrained as this film didn't make me laugh uproarously but merely chuckle and smile. He doesn't rely on violence for his slapstick humor neither. The film is fairly slow paced to give enough time for the spirit of the holidays to sink in. Notice that there isn't a single closeup shot in the film. I think this film would have been more enjoyable if it was in color.
Pays homage to it's predecessors like Chaplin and Keaton, but also sets the stage and a precursor to Mr. Bean and Zucker Brothers. I laughed out loud quite a bit.
The Real father of Mr. Bean.. I adore The original tricks. Frankly i have to say.. I laughed few times.. Many trick made me smile.. I had no big laugh. I don't know maybe he's just not my comedian. It's quite disappointed when you wanna laugh but you don't.. Especially for some movie you always thought it must be great!! Sure you'll get bored from moment to moment while you watch it.. I confess i prayed it to end quickly or please show me something that can bring a bog laugh out of me!!
And another thing is This movie didn't have real storyline.. Just day by day at the sea.. What trick Tati would show me today.. just that!! Scenes of Hulot's Tricks at the sea..
Anyway Some tricks were really creative and interesting.. Worth wacthing a classic comedy style. I also got "Playtime" and "Mon Oncle" DVDs.. ahh.. i'll let you know what it think of them if i wacth them.. But give me a break from Tati for a while :)
PS. I never want to watch Mr. Bean. I know many people love him.. But i hate tricks with fake stupid-charactor!! I used to watch Mr. Bean Serie long time ago. While others laughed at his tricks like there's no tomorrow, I felt sorry for him.. for his mistakes.. So i promised myself i will not see Mr. Bean stuff again.. and that's the only time i watched Mr. Bean..
This film is almost as good as Mon Oncle, but is a bit more frivolous and isn't making as much social commentary. They are both witty, observant, and funny in ways that don't necessarily make you laugh, but more often smile, often knowingly.
Jacques Tati stumbles his way through his vacation along the beach, interveining in people's lives and often annoying the man in charge of the establishment.
certain classic moments of comedy include: Tati trying to save sinking bread from its hook, a squeaky door which no one challenges aloud, bursts of jazz music during the night, an utterly hilarious display of fireworks at 2:00am, a lively dead fox rug and a false shark in the water. guess who's fault that one was? Tati of course. and the set-up of this comedy is flawless.
The only set-back is lacking of verbal communication between the characters. and although it is meant to have this perpurse, i felt that several comic circumstances could have been taken advantage of with verbal comedy aswell as the never-ending slapstick.
Nevertheless, Jacques, my new favourite visual comedian brings subtle innocence to his ever guilty Mr. Hulot at the expense of the other guests, usually involving their belongings being abused in rude, hilarious manners.
Absolutely delightful comedy that revels in the subtle, with excellent use of sound. I honestly did not think I would love this film so much, but it has made me a fan of Jacques Tati's work. A comedy to be enjoyed by everyone, everywhere!
