Plot: A fast track lawyer can't lie for 24 hours due to his son's birthday wish after the lawyer turns his son down for the last time.
I love this movie almost solely fot the scene where Jim Carrey kicks his own ass in the bathroom. That is one of my favorite scenes of all time.
There's over the top. There's way over the top. And then there's Jim Carrey.
Carrey plays a conniving lawyer who has been lying for so long that it's become second nature. He's so good at spinning fabrications that one of the partners in the firm where he works has an eye on him to become a partner. But lying for a living has taken its toll. Cheating on his wife cost him his marriage two years earlier, and now he is constantly disappointing his young son by making promises he has no intention of keeping.
So, when Dad doesn't show up for his son's fifth birthday party, the boy makes a sincere wish -- that "for only one day, Dad couldn't tell a lie." Naturally, the wish comes true -- but it also goes one step further. Not only can Carrey not lie, he's compelled to tell the truth.
From here on, the audience can sit back and enjoy the show. Carrey, all set to defend a reprehensible client in a divorce case, doesn't realize he has become a plain-talking time bomb. When the judge -- before a packed courtroom -- politely asks how he's doing, the lawyer tells him. "I'm a little upset about a bad sexual episode I had last night," he says, clamping his hands over his mouth a tad too late. What makes this truly funny isn't so much Carrey blurting out his true feelings without realizing what he's doing, but his own reactions to having done so. The look on his face is what makes the situation so funny.
The awful truth keeps gushing out, and Carrey tries, with hilarious futility, to close the spigot. He hums loudly when people ask him questions. He sprints through his office to avoid leveling with his colleagues. He throws himself against walls. On one occasion, he puts his head under a toilet seat and repeatedly bangs his face. But nothing can stop the beast.
"It was me!" he confesses, as he leaves an elevator full of people clutching their noses. When his son reiterates his teacher's sunny aphorism that "beauty is on the inside," Daddy "corrects" him: "That's just what ugly people say."
As Carrey sees the error of his ways, "Liar Liar" becomes a predictable morality exercise. But with great gags like these, the formula's easy to swallow. Imagine Jim Carrey trying to stop himself from being.. . .well, Jim Carrey! It's a magnificent comic experience. Such a hysterical movie.
Some of Jim Carrey's best schtick is in this movie. But the title implies that at a certain point Carrey's pants will be set on fire. This never happens, hence my disappointment.
Cop: You know why I pulled you over?
Fletcher: Depends on how long you were following me!!
IS SO FUNNY WITH JIM IN THIS MOVIE !!!!!!!!! HE MAKES THIS MOVIE WORTHY TO SEE IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!
Jim Carrey....over acting...must have inherited the exageration gene...tone it down Jimbo ..you kill plots!
i remember watching this with one of those 1hr beauty face masks on and i was in pain and pretty much picking it off within minutes cause i was laughin that much.
that was a long time ago so my opinion might of changed but i remember it being quite good.
I Dnt like Jim Carrey. He's fukin retarded! It wulda been beta wi out him. But i like the hole concept.
This is one of my favorite Jim Carrey films. I've probably seen this about 20 times and I still crack up. Jim Carrey just never gets old. He is an awesome comedic actor. One of the best.

Pretty good movie. after watching this like 3 weeks ago, I realized that car phones were a dumb invention!
LOVEEEEE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I quote this all the time.
My favourite Jim Carrey movie especially that last scene in the court! lol
Jim Carrey plays a compulsive liar, but he's not a crazy student, crazy worker, or boss, or even in politics.
Loved Jim Carey in this one. Brought out the best in him. Premise was a bit lame, and story didn't work well.
Smart, witty and hilarious. Jim Carrey is awesome in this flick! I love how smart the movie is! I enjoyed every minute of it!
Another Jim Carrey classic. Would of been shit without him. Some halrious scenes and classic lines great film to watch thanks to Jim Carrey.
Hilarious! Jim carrey is super funny and this movie is so funny because he can't lie so he gets in a lot of situations!
Jim Carrey in my opinion always tends to "overact".. something I really hate about any performance, but with him I don't know how it sometimes just works, and Liar Liar is one of his movies where it did and his "exaggeration" if we may call it that, didn't spoil the movie for me so it was one of his better performances..
Hilarious movie with a great idea, worth watching..
As far as acting is concerned, it's a low for Carrey.
But, I must say he is in some odd way, hysterical.
funny...one of jim carrey's good ones...i think...though sometimes his acting can be exaggerated and he gets really goofy
