At the center of the fable is Guido, an enchanting individual with childlike innocence and grand dreams of owning his own book shop. It's 1939, and he has come to the Tuscan town of Arrezzo with his poet friend Ferruccio. With unabashed humor and joy, the two seek fortune and romance, ignoring the growing anti-Semitism and Fascist government that surrounds them. Guido falls in love with Dora, a beautiful young school teacher, and a fairy tale romance ensues.

This is one of the most beautiful and touching films ever made. It takes true talent to combine both great comedy and terrible tragedy. Roberto Benigni is brilliant as Guido and as the film?s director. I loved how he accepted his award for best film at the Oscars, it makes me lau...( read more)gh just thinking about it. I have been meaning to see this movie for ten years now. In 2009, I finally got to see it. Although it kept my interest for the full movie, I was disappointed. Perhaps after waiting for 10 years, I was expecting a better movie.

Roberto Benigni plays Guido to whom Life is Beaut...( read more)iful. He does everything he can to shield his son from the realism of the German concentration camp - to the point of unbelievability. Still, I'm glad I saw it finally.

This film does the impossible. It tells an incredibly funny story that is set during the holocaust in WWII, that also depicts the horrible truth about the holocaust and the suffering of the Jewish people. Roberto Benigni's film is a wonder that it can accomplish both. The playful...( read more) way his character tries to woo his future wife, and then shields his child from the awful truth of the concentration camp that they find themselves in is amazing. This film is a must see to anyone with a heart. It is a powerful statement and an enjoyable film.

Stunning perfection. It has been a painfully long time since a film affected me like this. Even the next day I burst into tears (several times) when thinking about the various moments in this film. It is the combination of life's most gorgeous moments with the most devastating...( read more) that makes the movie so unique and magical. When the little boy (who is about as cute as I believe possible) sees the tank and his mouth drops open in awe I just totally lost it. I can't believe it took me so long to see this literal masterpiece.

Probably the first Nazi war movie that can make us laugh for most parts of the movie.

Unlike other war movies, it does not display gore or sadness or depression. It shows smile and hope in the face of death, which is truly what everybody should have whenever they are faced wit...( read more)h despair.

The only other film that comes close to it in beauty and is consistently hilarious, and unforgettable as this one is "The Great Dictator" by Charles Chaplin. Benigni's gift to the world, the story of an irrepressible spirit who refuses to ever give in to adversity! A film for the soul! One of the world's great pictures,a film that proves that love is all you need!!!!
