A very beautiful film. It is one of the best 'best pictures' ever. It does not solely focuses on the situation of Jews during World War 2 but instead, it focuses on how much you are willing to give for those who matters to you the most and the faith to make it through. It has a v...( read more)ery melancholic ending and at the same time, full of hope for a new beginning. This film will be cherished forever.

Laughing in the face of adversity is the best way to triumph over it.

At least this is what the film Life Is Beautiful is trying to connect and perhaps wants its viewers in awe as well as ponder upon. It is a funny and touching film that works best if one doesn't take it to...( read more)o seriously.

The first part of the film is blithe and playful, a fine showcase for the star and director's unstoppable verve. Of course, one of the themes of the film is the desire to protect the innocent from the horrors of life at any cost, to show them that life is beautiful.

The film's attempts to do this in such an extreme situation is admirable, yet the compromises of the reality of the situation is apparently inevitable. How could you justify reality in the face of adversity?

This is an unpretentious and likable film that plays with history both seriously and mischievously...

As the screen faded to credits and I sat alone in my living room, I kept replaying the final few minutes in my mind. The film continued to haunt me throughout my sleep and into the next morning. I don't know what rating to give it. This movie was both somehow *wrong*, that such a...( read more) horrifying event was given such a rosy color, but at the same time so stunningly beautiful, that a young boy could come out of that event with that image of it in his mind. The story of a father determined at any cost to keep his son alive and happy was charming at the beginning and then almost terrifying at the end. I can understand why people respond both negatively and positively to this. And I am torn between those two poles... which is probably the way it was meant to be. If you go too far one way or the other, you lose the meaning of the movie. The fight between terror and joy, which is fought throughout the entire story. This isn't a movie you should be able to just choose an opinion on. I have a feeling I'll be revamping and reconsidering and reordering my thoughts on this movie for days and weeks and perhaps months and years to come.

I am going to give it an extremely high rating because for a movie to conflict me that much emotionally, it means it was almost certainly made superbly - if I can't just throw it off to the side, it has something worth considering.

such an amazing film. Benigni's acting and directing is just awe-inspiring. beautifully surreal, poignantly hilarious, and stirringly touching. a laugh-out-loud comedy with just the right amount of dramatic realism. cleverly, if a bit obscurely written. simply a masterpiece.

A film that is incredibly mixed with comedy and heavy drama, "Life is Beautiful" is a bittersweet tale about a child's innocence. Benigni's character Guido is the child's father, but even though the father is the main protagonist of the film, the story really revolved around the ...( read more)child. Benigni's comical but yet very touching performance is flawless, as he carried the film by himself. There are many hilarious scenes in this picture, particulalrly the inspection scene in the school, but other than that, the film is very dark-toned, balanced only by Benigni's lively performance. The musical score is very inspiring despite the situations the charcters are in, and it really deserved the Oscar. If you look at the ending it is very depressing and sad, but it is very hard not to feel any happiness inside of you, because even though it is indeed very sad,[SPOILER] the heavily optimistic trail that the father has left will live you graced with inspiration that, according to the great tagline of the film, "imagination conquers all". One of the best foreign films I have seen, bar none.
