Genius. Funny, dramatic, sexy, tons of tension! Amazing acting all around, great writing. Kate Winslet must get an Oscar nomination for this. *edit* She did! And she would have won if it weren't for Helen Mirren's mimickry of the Queen. :P

One of my favourite movies ever!! Reminds me of happiness, maybe because of the scene with Jane Adams. This movie has it all, great storyline(s), good camerawork, good acting. The characters are well crafted, only I wanted to see more of jane. I can recommend it to everyone who w...( read more)ants to see a serious movie.

Wasn't expecting anything but was a nice surprise. Jackie Earle Haley is brilliant, he really improved the narrative.

Entertaining enough... About following your dreams... or do we?

Lots of naughty, behind their spouses' backs sex.
  • September 25, 2009
Ugh, such a boring movie, didn't like it at all even though I think Kate is a great actress.
  • September 20, 2009
a completely wasted premise. the movie dropped the ball at every opportunity and was a complete let down.

I love you Kate, but I hate this movie. I get what it was trying to say... but uhhhhh....

    UHHHHHHH!

I stumbled across this tasty little goody while channel surfing one night. It quickly got and held my attention first, because I like the actresses (Kate Winslet & Jennifer Connolly) and second, because of the interesting and intertwined story lines. This movie was well written ...( read more)and well acted. I thought I recognized the creepy pedophile character, and I was right. He was Kelly, from the original Bad News Bears (1976).

A depressing psychological drama that focuses on the most common conflicts and intense emotional states taken to an extreme, caused mainly by our ignorance, unfaithfulness and hipocresy, but specially because of our own personality conflicts. A modern rare gem with a nice cast an...( read more)d performances. Intense.

A very dramatic piece of cinema making where all the lives of the characters intertwine. There are some strong themes in the movie and they are not swept under the carpet. Excellent performances all round and I'd recommend it highly.

you are not always this fortunate enough to go back at the right time,

It's a great movie. The little children of the title are not only the kids of the characters, but the movie shows that the main characters are still children and in one night, they'll all learn to grow up. Because like the narrator said at the end "it had to start somewhere".

Good character gallery. It's nice for a change to see something big put in a small realistic story.
  • August 30, 2009
Well set up with really interesting characters and interactions, i just found the final climax and ending lacking a bit in conclusiveness, there was more I wanted from the different characters. But... yeah. Maybe I should read the book.
  • August 21, 2009
Great story, great actors but something fails because at the end so many great things werent that much. Still been good.
  • August 13, 2009
The movie was good overall, but the narrator almost ruined it for me. I understand that it is difficult to adapt a novel into a movie, but the director should have had more faith in his actors. Without the narration this would probably have gotten one more star from me. One silly...( read more) question still haunts me from this movie; Why was the babysitter so mad when Sarah came home? Just bad editing?

a terrific movie, full of emotion. beautiful, great acting, got me caught in it with every character, every second, scared that something bad might happen to them.
  • August 9, 2009
The subject matter is a little disturbing, but the movie is very good. Worth watching.
  • August 6, 2009
Odd movie. I hated it the first time I watched it, then it came to grow on me. Strangely hypnotic but not for every taste.
  • August 3, 2009
this movie is kinda fucked up but it really draws you in. you catch yourself in the mood for a slow film i recommend this one. Its actually one of the best films i ever seen
  • July 30, 2009
Simple and engaging with a great script and great, great performances. The narration is at first a bit tiresome and obvious but by the end is just another wonderful character. It's wonderful how the film manages to shed so much light on so many things without ever judging or bein...( read more)g the least bit preachy. A very strong film.

the movie had a good storyline, and the acting was good.

I'm glad Kate didn't leave with Patrick because then, this movie would have been the second movie in wich she let her children down.
  • July 14, 2009
    i found it disguised, huh!
the movie is bit slow but i liked it so far. All actors truely explained their given characters. i liked the flow of different happenings along with the story.
Kate Winslet is one amazing actor i believe. she did it so well and Jackie Earle is the re...( read more)ason why i found it disguised.but he proved his character so wonderfully. i guess he's the best suited person for this role.

An intensely compelling and quietly devastating look at what makes us comfortable & educated human beings crave another existence when tempted with the promise of passionate escapism. Todd Field is even able to surpass the narrative skill and fuzzy texture that polished his previ...( read more)ous offering, the raw but touching In the Bedroom, and thus delivering with Little Children a fresh and sensuous take on familiar themes. By teaming up with two superbly human performers (and managing to obtain Kate Winslet's best performance in years, and my personal favourite character of hers), Field's adaptation of a novel by Tom Perrotta is nothing short of a magnetic, vibrant and poetic look at lives the movies rarely visit with this much sympathy.

i'm gonna say just one word "i like this movie" and thnx melonhead27 for recommeding me to watch it :-D
  • July 1, 2009
Decent enough interweaving character piece with an outstanding performance by Haley. Connelly was underused and it had an "oscars please" whiff to it, but it was still watchable and well directed.
  • June 28, 2009
The narrator nearly ruined this movie for me, but, in the end, it pulled through. 1
  • June 16, 2009
Definately not my kind of movie. I felt like I've seen this type of movie so many times, I lost interest in it...not that I was really interested from the start. The beginning didn't make much sense until you actually got into the movie. Once it was over, all I thought was 'what ...( read more)the hell? nothing got accomplished; nothing happened'. It was disappointing.

I wonder about people and why they do some things they do. I could not see why Kate liked this guy.
  • June 10, 2009
The acting was fantastic. I enjoyed watching the growth of the characters. The movie was very character-driven.
  • June 6, 2009
Bit of an odd film, but interesting in terms of the narrative. At first I really liked the characters, and how they all intertwined - the events that linked them etc, but nearer the end I didn't enjoy it very much. And the narrator was really quite irritating! But I think that's...( read more) personal opinion - it gives you an insight into what the characters are thinking, in a different way - I just sort of prefer it when that's done through the acting.. and the cinematography and that. I would still recommend watching it though as it kept me interested.. Kate Winslet is good.

...gripping...powerful...these words and many more can only describe the performences and excecution of the brilliant morality tale...
  • May 22, 2009
a goodie, but seemed a little rushed up at the end
  • May 20, 2009
    too dark and twisty!
  • May 16, 2009
Kate Winslet never ceases to amaze me. "Little Children" may very well be the best of the stuck-in-the-suburbs subgenre drama. Yes better than "American Beauty." Yes better than "Virginia Woolf." Winslet is Sarah, a selfish young mother stuck in adolescence, just as her extramari...( read more)tal lover Brad (Patrick Wilson) "The Prom King" is. "It's the desire for an alternative," Sarah says at one point. And that very well may be true, but the climactic ending of the film is what is truly impressive.

Well, I must say that I'm not impressed with what Todd Field did in this movie... The directing style was quite weird, the story got no point, yet the editing was a disaster... I really don't have any idea at all how can this movie get 3 Oscar nominee... For Kate Winslet as the l...( read more)eading actress, her performance wasn't that great, maybe it's a little different than her other role before but for me it's not make me impressed... Maybe she is really the actress that all the Oscar jury loves... And for Jackie Earle Haley who get an Oscar nominee for Best Supporting Actor, maybe his performance was quite different, but still he didn't impress me... And latest is the Screenplay who get a nominee for Best Adapted Screenplay... The story just a story about affair with a little extra spice in some places but overall it didn't make me impress... Maybe if we compared it to the book, they got a great adaptation, but in my opinion who didn't read the book before, I know that an affair story won't go any further besides the acting of the player... And for Jennifer Connelly, Patrick Wilson, or Noah Emmerich, they got a nice try in here, but still it's a decent... Overall, I don't know exactly the score of this movie, but because they have the lovely Winslet in here, I can't gave this movie less than 2 and a half stars...
