Sweet, funny and perfectly cast! George Cukor's Little Women is far and away the best of the four versions of Louisa May Alcott's timeless story of the March family. Katharine Hepburn is excellent as the tomboyish Jo.
This book was the bane of my literary existence long ago... but here it is surprisingly palatable in movie form. I adored Katharine Hepburn (but then again, when don't I?).
Christopher Columbus, what a great movie! *laughs* When you see it you'll get whey I wrote that. Heartwarming and funny this is one classic you should watch before you die.
although the book was by far better, for those who liked little house on the prarie and anne of green gables, this one is for you. It depicts young girls who go through life events that leave you feeling like you are there in the movie. It is a definate must see for girlie type films.
Although this was the original, I think I prefer the 1949 remake in general. But that's mostly because of the color and costumes. This one was slightly more detailed.
