Loggerheads

Ann Pierce, Bonnie Hunt, Chris Sarandon, Kip Pardue, Michael Harding

Inspired by a true story, and set in three different geographical regions of North Carolina, 'Loggerheads' follows the journey of Mark, a soft-spoken drifter in his 20s who makes a pilgrimage to a sma...( read more  read more... )ll coastal town near Wilmington in order to save the endangered Loggerhead turtles that nest on the beach in the summer. Mark's journey brings us into contact with three other characters, each at the crossroads of their lives. George is a local motel owner who, until now, has avoided dealing with his emotions. Grace, a middle-aged woman recovering from a breakdown, has returned to her hometown in the mountains near Asheville to stay with her mother. Plagued by the desire to fill an emotional void, Grace embarks on a search for the child she secretly gave up for adoption when she was a teenager. Elizabeth has lived a fishbowl existence as the wife of a minister for 25 years in a small town in the foothills of the state. When her safe, sheltered neighborhood starts to change around her, Elizabeth must decide whether to stand by her conservative husband's beliefs or take a stand on her own.

WOW! To get a glimpse of the story, put your cursor on the movie cover. It gives a good summary. This is a powerful movie with some very finely drawn characters with some serous real life issues.. My favorite line: The minister's wife goes to a neighbor to complain about the ver...( read more)y large nude statue of David she has in her front yard. She suggests that the neighbor move it to the back yard where everyone won't have to see it. The neighbor responds, :"That's how you deal with life, isn't it? Move everything you don't like out of sight and refuse to discuss it." Very good movie!

This is a very poignant drama which follows three stories. One of a young gay guy with HIV who wants to save turtles, one of a preacher's wife who misses her son, and one of a woman who misses the child she gave up for adoption. I thought it was really well done, and it's based o...( read more)n a true story, which I believe it did justice as you do feel for all of the character's one way or the other. I'm not surprised that it's the preacher who comes off worst, as religion has blinded throughout the years.
