It's hard to say the violence here is gratuitous, since this is a samurai movie. Lots of flying body parts and squirting blood. Aside from that the plot played more like a series and less like a movie. But then again, that it is!

the first in the series of lone wolf and cub, the story of a shogun's executioner forced to flee with his infant son after the murder of his wife. he takes work as a hired assassin, with baby cart in tow, until he can seek revenge. lots of fun, blood and child endangerment!

Such a kick-ass movie that it A L M O S T rivals Yojimbo as my favorite samurai movie. Sword of Vengeance has some sword fights that are gruesome, bloody and beautiful as well as a Shaft-like (the original, not that shitty remake) sex scene. The kid (Cub) is cute as hell in a bab...( read more)

Awesome samurai classic. Gore aplenty. Great fight scenes and a better story than most samurai movies. Spawned 5 great sequels.

Fantastic, lots of blood and great killings, one film that can enjoyed over and over again. It is a film with lots of raw energy and cool moments.

This is the kind of films that make me love the japanese cinema more and more.
