A remake of western star Hoot Gibson's earlier The Ramblin' Kid (1923), this part-talkie western, the first of two such for Gibson, slowed down its exciting rodeo-scenes (The Hooter plays a rodeo-rider) for several scenes of boring dialogue dealing with villain James Mason's attempt to abscond with the sweepstakes money. Following the production of the next Gibson oater, Courtin' Wildcats, studio head Carl Laemmle forced the star to produce all-talking westerns.
