Lord of the Flies Reviews and Ratings

I actually enjoyed this movie a lot more than I'd expected.
Despite the fact that it was all filmed on the exact same place and that not much happened I still found it really engaging and exciting.
It keeps you hooked to the screen and it's impossible to look away from it!

I have never watched the film but im rating it purely on having studied the novel itself. Golding touhes upon many key issues and uses numerous symbolic references throughout e.g. the conch, the pigs head. The novel as many themses and issues of authority and civilisation running...( read more) through it.... and is a great read (watch).

Bleh, just bleh. I loved reading the book in high school and wouldn't mind owning that one day, but this movie I never plan to own.

Pretty decent. I havn't read the book or seen the original but from what I read It makes me want to for sure. Pretty interesting survival story as well as simply stating the chaos of man. Makes me want to believe in God even more.

I thought it was good book. The movie was ok.
  • July 22, 2009
Visually lush adaption of William Golding's novel. Looks prettier than the content warrants. Go back to 1963 for the more accurate version. Or just read the book.

  • July 14, 2009

This one is only good if you know the sybolism behind everything
  • July 6, 2009
Has so little to do with the book that it's almost embarrassing! I was not impressed. I'm sorry.

    Not at all boring.

Piggy: We did everything just the way grownups would have. Why didn't it work? Things would be much better here if it wasn't for him. I wish he was dead.
    Ralph: No, you don't.
Piggy: I do! We could just give up and join his tribe. Then we'd at least
...( read more)be with the others.
    Ralph: No, Piggy.
    Piggy: Ralph... I can't see.
    Ralph: I know.

    Yet another terrible book-to-film adaption.
  • April 26, 2009
It strays pretty far from the book...but I still liked it.
A hell of a lot more entertaining than the black & white version we had to watch in English class.

  • December 19, 2008
this is a very good adaption of a novel that i have loved. it is an excellent exploration of society and morallity that is both harsh and tender, beautifull and disturbing.

  • December 5, 2008
We had to watch this film back in high school and read the book. The film gives a good adaptation to the book. But overall the book is still much better.
  • December 1, 2008
Une pale copie du premier ou une interprétation trop bon enfant du livre. Préférez la version de 1963 réalisée par Peter Brook.
  • November 13, 2008
I fell asleep... But I believe the movies was good. :P
  • November 9, 2008
After reading the book you cannot feel disapponitment watching this adaptation. They changed too much in the film, but that's not why I didn't like it, a movie adaptation doesn't necessarily must be faithful to the book to be good , but this lacked of any symbolism, it was scatte...( read more)red, not intense and with a poor dialogue. The actors playing Ralph and Jack were good but the rest sucked, but overall the acting was better than in the adaptation from '63.
    For thrills read the book.
  • October 15, 2008
A decent adaptation of the novel. Points for a mention of 'Alf', if I remember correctly.
  • October 3, 2008
disturbing, but hauntingly realistic portrayal of humanity's potential for evil.
  • September 23, 2008
U have to read the book to understand the movie..
  • September 8, 2008
The book was exploring the nature of human beings, and it showed that there was contradictions in character. This was not shown here as the script seemed to be heading for a very black and white approach. It cut out a lot of subtleties which 'made' the book. Why make Jack a troub...( read more)le maker from the start when in actual fairness he was prefect and had responsibility in his old life etc. Almost like they are trying to say, well a normal boy wouldn't do that - but Golding was saying, but they would. Also where was the key scene, where Simon speaks to the Lord of the Flies? From watching this film alone I would have no idea why it was titled such. The film was not bad, but I'm marking down because it didn't tell the story it was meant to tell.
