Lords of Dogtown for me, was one of those movies that was just so real. It's one of those movies that you watch that just reminds you what reality is...not Hollywood. And it smacks you in the face with it, just incase you need to be awoken from the fake-reality (Hollywood) daze.

I found the characters in this to be just so great...all very well played. Very honest performances. Heaths character really is just a dickhead...but very funny and you dont like to admit it but you do like his character sometimes because of how funny he can be.
The story I find is so sad...and it didn't have the happiest ending. But it's real. All the things that happen, some of them are quite un predictable, just like real life. The little complications aren't filtered out. All the bummers of life are included in this movie which is what gives it that slightly depressing, but real feel to it. This actually makes (well me anyway) feel some mixed emotions when watching it. Sometimes you don't really know whether you should be laughing or crying.
I really loved this movie- it made me laugh AND cry =] hehe.

Very good drama about the rise of the skateboarding culture in 1970's Calafornia. This follows three friends who are into just hanging out, surfing and skateboarding until the owner of the local surf shop decides it's time they took a step up and forms a skateboarding team and the boys become more and more successful up to the point where their friendships are tested and threatened. This has good performances from the whole cast, including Emile Hirsch and the late, great Heath Ledger,a brilliant soundtrack featuring some classic songs from the 70's and is a compelling look into the strength of friendship.

Named my #4 Personal Pantheon favorite film, multiple Poppy winner for 2005, including ensemble cast, breakthrough performance, and Best Supporting Actor for Michael Angarano. I just don't get how people could NOT love this movie...the cast is stellar in depicting the lives of the three men who helped launch the modern era of skateboarding - John Robinson (2007 #1 PNR Rising Star) is brilliant as Stacy Peralta, Victor Rasuk is fantastic as Tony Alva, and Emile Hirsch launched himself on a path to superstardom as Jay Adams. All the right elements for an absolutely fantastic and CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED movie. Director Catherine Hardwick made me a fan FOR LIFE with this film!

This was quite a good movie. You gotta love the Z-Boys. I like the documentary Dogtown and Z-Boys more than this fictionalised version, though the soundtrack for this movie is awesome. It amazes me how much Victor Rasuk looks like young Tony Alva. I am so glad Peggy was included in this movie.

haha I thought this movie was going to bite, but it turns out I really love it for some reason. I don't even recall why. Usually I would hate a movie like this but it just appealed to for for an odd reason.

If you like skateboarding and/or surfing then you'll love this movie about the legendary SoCal boys that invented a new kind of skateboarding. Great cast and great acting.

The zephyr boys were legendary. The all made it big as skateboarders. They all came from hardship and stayed loyal to those they trusted at least until the idea of money came into the picture. The three main z boys all came from different ways of life all looking to reinvent a sport and out it on the map. Jay( Hirsch) was only looking to help his mom pay the rent and make sure that she does not have to go though any hard times. Tony Alva (Victor Rasuk) was just trying to make a living and be someone that he could be proud of. Stacy Peralta (John Robinson) was basically just a simple kid that was following his friends but happened to have talent where skateboarding is concerned. The three boys along with a few others were brought together by Skip Engblom ( Heath Ledger). Skip was trying to give these kids a shot at what they loved and a chance to fulfill their dreams. He gave them that and in the end they all went on to bigger and better things but Skip never held it against them.

Emile Hirsch broke through with this film. He starred as the wild and out of this world Jay Adams. A man who was good at skateboarding but began to mix with the wrong crowd and had a little bit of an attitude problem sometimes. Emile did an awesome job carrying the load of this character and making everyone see the hardships of trying to make something of yourself. Emile is awesome, does some good skateboarding tricks and skates his way into an awesome roll with some awesome critical acclaim.

First off I would like to say Rest in Peace Heath Ledger. Secondly I would like to say what an awesome actor you were. Heath had so many awesome roles from the Order, The brothers Grimm, Casanova and Brokeback mountain. Heath was well known and had some awesome talents. He was an awesome man to have known in real life. In Lords of Dogtown he plays Skip Engblom the man who starts the legendary Z-Boys a group of young teens who went on to become some of the most well known skateboarders of all time. Heath does a good job capturing the know holds barred, everything goes attitude of Skip. Heath does a good job of playing the business man struggling to get some cash while trying to keep his boys from bailing on him.

Lords of Dogtown combines the struggles of life with the struggles of trying to make something of yourself. The Z-boys dealt with life on the streets and girls and the temptations of money and how it can ultimately decide who you do business with and who supports you in your efforts. Lords of Dogtown really shows how the sport of skateboarding was built and how it got to where it is now. Skateboarding is an ever growing sport and has become one of the most popular sports since the late seventies until now. Dogtown shows the true value of friends and family and what you will do to bail them out of hard spot. It also shows how quickly friends can disown one another but when it comes down to it they will always remain friends.

Lords of Dogtown is awesome and rich in the struggles of life and how going from nothing to something does not always make you truly happy. You have to find it within yourself to truly become happy.

Cool movie. In a way, the film felt like a satire to me; painting an effective picture into the self-destructive side of human nature. On a personal note, the late Heath Ledger gives such a great performance in this film and completely steals the whole movie for me.

There is a great atmosphere in this movie. The actors play there different parts with conviction and are believable. They have really cached the skate culture in the movie with nice music. I also like the sepia look they have in the movie, the brown colours helps to create the 70 sence. Beautiful skating scenes also.

Emile Hirsch is GREAT. the story could be better, but it fails in the middle. the director i think knows what she's making film about, and it's Ledger's finest performance after brokeback mountain.

I really enjoyed Lords of Dogtown but I don't think that most people will. It is a pre-requisite that you see the documentary Z-Boys & The Lords of Dogtown before watching this feature. We see these guys rise up from the squalid streets to super-stardom and it's a fun journey, filled with all sorts of thrashing. The acting is all very good but the story is a little weak. I liked this film but a lot of the plot holes were filled in for me because I have viewed the documentary. Without that film, I don't think this film stands up. Although, give it a shot... I would recommend this film to skate enthusiasts and people who enjoyed the original doc.
