A good movie, and heartbreaking at times, but I was offended by one little part of the film; specifically, the part where Nick Nolte and Susan Sarandon are talking about inviting an African friend to come and stay with them in America, and Nolte says, "But he's black, and a Muslim. We can't make him come to this racist country and be treated like a second-class citizen."
Um...Nick? Hello? In case you haven't noticed, we do have black people living in this country. This movie takes place in the mid-1980s, for goodness sake. Your friend is hardly likely to be lynched for sitting at the front of a bus. Sheesh.
This is truly one of the most depressing movies ever. The stroy of a boy with an incurable ailment treated with some kind of oil. No Hollywood ending for him.
You can bet a true story such as this is going to be a tear jerker. Not really, but this story about finding a cure for a little boy is monumental for its acting and reality. What a dramatic flick.
I watched this in one of my classes in high school a few years ago. It was so sad. I was trying so hard not to cry during the movie. The performances were amazing by the actors. A very powerful movie.
wow i have just seen this movie for the 1st time n think that this is a really powerfully sad story...the director of this Drama movie had done a good job of directing this movie because you never know what 2 expect throuhgout this drama movie...susan sarandon n nick nolte were brilliant as the parents throughout this movie because they are both good actors/actressess n have done some good movies throughout there careers..this is a really sad story because the boy who was the inspiration for this movie has just sadly passed away in real-life at just 30 years old which is really sad...this is an incredible true=story...this is a really powerfully sad story...
it was on tv last night and I watched it...its a good movie with a great susan saraondon and nick nolte...... its not the typical dramatic movie of a sick child but you will like it
"Do you know how many children die every year from choking on french fries? Many more than from Adrenoleukodistrophy. You see, ours is what is known as an orphan disease, too small to be noticed, too small to be funded, especially with the iron hand of "Reganomics"."
This movie was not very dynamic but I still found it fascinating. It is a drama based on the true story of Augusto and Michaela Odone, two parents who found a way to stave off their son's rare disease (ALD) with a certain type of oil.
A powerful, emotional and heartbreaking film based on the true story of Michaela and Augusto Odone (Susan Sarandon and Nick Nolte) who discover that their young son Lorenzo is diagnosed with a life-threatening degenerative neurological disease and their battle to keep him alive. This could have easily had become into a cheesy "T.V. movie of the week" but co-writer/producer/director George Miller (Mad Max series, Babe, Happy Feet) takes a smart, honest and realistic approach to the material. His direction is beautifully done and the script is well written. Sarandon and Nolte are fantastic in their roles and the supporting cast are great. There are some scenes in which Lorenzo?s condition takes a terrible turn, that it becomes pretty hard to watch (trust me they will) but this is an incredibly moving film that I highly recommend everyone to check out.
This was pretty hard too watch, a very depressing true story. The acting was fantastic, no surprises there with Susan Sarandon involved. Nick Nolte was rather good in it too.
Hard to watch at times, but an excellent and fascinating movie.
A very powerful film though so much of the text was whispered around the sick child that it was difficult to keep up with the text in places.
I'm not so sure I liked Nick Nolte's italian accent but I'm sure many will disagree with me there.
A couple of heart-wrenching scenes though I thought the beginning could have been taken at a slower pace.
I would recommend this film to parents of terminally ill children, just to give them hope.
A profound and inspirational real-life story about the strength of a family who dares to ask questions and take action when their child is faced with a terminal illness. impeccable casting and performance. this moved me to tears more than once.
Powerful, Masterful. One of the most heart wrenching and intense films I have ever seen. Although I must say do to the sheer magnitude of this film I couldn't watch it twice.
Heartbreaking drama about a boy who gets a mysterious diesease. His mother and father tries to find a cure before it's too late. Make sure you have a hankie, because it'a a tearjerker. Great acting by Susan and Nick. Also the boy did an awesome job!
