To his public, Colin Thatcher is an able, well-groomed Canadian politician. But to his family, he is a cruel husband and father. Colin abuses his wife, Joanne, and once even shoots at her. Despite Joanne's impassioned pleas to the cops and to other state officials, these authorities turn a blind eye to her plight, and she continues to endure his terror. And then one day, Colin kills Joanne. Her murder sparks a courtroom battle in which the couple's tight-lipped sons are manipulated both to exonerate Colin and to put him behind bars.
