Plot: Writer/director Michael Landon Jr. continues in his famous father's footsteps by creating moral family entertainment set in the early days of the American prairie. Stubborn Marty Claridge (Katherine H...( read more read more... )eigl, Grey's Anatomy) travels west with her new husband--but after they find a beautiful patch of land, her husband dies in an accident before they've even started building. A man named Clark (Dale Midkiff, Air Bud: World Pup) makes a proposal: If Marty will enter into a platonic marriage with him, he'll pay for her passage back east in the spring. What Clark needs is a mother, however temporary, for his willful tomboy daughter Missie (Skye McCole Bartusiak, Beyond the Prairie, Part 2). Missie fights Marty's presence fiercely while Clark, though supportive, speaks few words, and Marty suspects she's made a terrible mistake--but time reveals otherwise. Love Comes Softly, based on the popular Christian novel by Janette Oke, is a romance, but Landon carefully avoids any bodice-ripping histrionics. Problems get solved perhaps a little too easily, but the movie is cleanly written, pleasantly understated, and respectful to its characters. For many viewers, Love Comes Softly will be a welcome change from overheated secular love stories. --Bret Fetzer

We got this movie on a whim and I didn't regret it. Katherine Heigl's performance is amazing, she completely embodies a character that is high-spirited, strong, and loving. While Dave Midkiff, perfects his character who is faithful, honest, gentle and just a plain good man. It was very beautiful and not over the top like other historical romances can sometimes be. I would watch this many more times in the future.

Martina "Marty" Claridge (Katherine Heigl) moved out to the West with her husband Aaron Claridge (Oliver MacReady). She accepts the marriage proposal to widower Clark Davis (Dale Midkiff) offers her a place to stay for the winter and provides her with the fare for the wagon train heading back East in the spring. Marty and Clark come to realize they're in love.

I wasn't as crazy about this movie as my friends who recommended it to me (maybe it was the little girl; she just reeeeally annoyed me...) But granted, it was a very sweet, tender romance. And I totally agree with its point, that "love isn't always fireworks. Sometimes love just comes softly."

The ending was so predictable and I'm assuming this was a made-for-TV movie because of the awkward scene breaks.... But if you're looking for a silly, girlie, romantic chick flick then this will fit the bill. I was satisfied and happy with the outcome *LOL*

While not quite like the book by Janette Oke, this movie is a sweet story about a bride who comes west only to become a widow and then wife of a man she hardly knows. I really enjoyed this film.

Major SAP Alert here - HOWEVER, once you just settle in comfortably (in all dat sap) there actually is a very good story here and I enjoyed. Young Skye Bartusiak is the real actress in this one.

This movie is a beautiful story filled with love and kindness. It has a real sophisticated, clasic style. For those who want a more mature watch then a teen romance with no class whatsoever then this movie is for you. It's a classic in my eyes.

All of these movies are well worth your time to watch. They are good family based movies for the whole family to watch and learn what family is all about from. This whole series.

It's amazing what different actors and a better wardrobe can do for a franchise. Leaps above it's progeny.

I read the book and didn't think the movie followed it very closely. It wasn't so great, but it was still good.
