Three characters are faced with that question in this dramatic documentary from filmmakers Maria Silvia Bazzoli and Christian Lelong. Ousmane is twenty years old and head over heels for a young woman named Balie. However, she lives many miles away in the city of Koupéla, and while he writes her love letters nearly every day, he's begun to have doubts about their long-distance relationship. Meanwhile, Jean Marie Zeugmoré is a man in his early sixties who had been treated kindly by life -- he has a fine house, a loving wife, and children who care for him. But what does it mean as he enters the last decades of his life? With Valentine's Day around the corner, a radio station is sponsoring an essay contest with the theme of "Love, Sex and AIDS" as listeners are invited to submit their thoughts on what love means in the present day, and Ousmane, Balie and Jean Marie all find themselves thinking about the topic and its personal ramifications. Amour, Sexe et Mobylette (aka Love, Sex and Moped) received its North American premiere at the 2008 Montreal World Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
