Love! Valour! Compassion!

Jason Alexander, John Benjamin Hickey, John Glover, Justin Kirk, Randy Becker

The premise sounds great but the promise is never fulfilled. Terrence McNally's Tony Award-winning hit about a cluster of gay male friends who gather several times one summer at a Victorian house on t...( read more  read more... )he bank of a rural lake never quite measures up (at least on film) as anything particularly profound. The story traces a history of infighting and changing relationships within the group, with the shock of AIDS slowly pushing everyone toward greater closeness and honesty. But instead of making an impact, so much of the film is trivial: dinner conversations are banal, tantrums are tedious, genitals are a little too overexposed. The two best and most familiar actors in the piece, Jason Alexander and John Glover, ironically play the most cliché-ridden characters. Still, Glover--who portrays British twin brothers who could not be more different from one another--is a very good reason to see this film. --Tom Keogh

Slow and boring at times with plenty of nudity, some not needed to ever be seen, but had a great message to it.

Angsty, maudlin drama based on a much better play. The actors are capable but something is lost in the translation from stage to screen.

I have been wanting to see this movie ever since I saw it advertised in the movies. I have seen it about a thousand times now & I've got to say. It's one of my all time favorite gay movies.

Sure the men are bitchy but look at the circumstances that they have to live with.

Another great cast, but this time the movie is just about perfect. This is like a gat "Big Chill" though AIDS is a predominant theme through out. the performances by Jason Alexander, Justin Kirk, and John Glover playing twin brothers that are polar opposites. This film focuses on...( read more) a group of friends that gather in the Hamptons at one of their coupled friends home. There are laughs, and tears in this rare gay theme film that stays true to the gay community. The film is based on Terrence McNally's Tony award winning play.
