Critic Reviews

  • Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

It has the tact to hold back, to trust its characters to somehow fumble through to something that's not love, maybe, but will do.

  • , TV Guide's Movie Guide

A charming, hilarious film that skillfully balances the many divergent storylines into a fascinating, entertaining whole.

  • Emanuel Levy, EmanuelLevy.Com

The best element of this Broadway play to the big screen transfer is the acting of the entire ensemble, headed by Richard Castellano, who received a Supporting Actor Oscar nomination.

  • , Film4

A witty movie - the success of which Howard never repeated.

Great cast but dated episodic comedy. Still its enjoyable to see so many wonderful performers all gathered together and Dishy's apartment is a snapshot of 70's mod decorating.
