Nothin exceptional here but Brazilian underclass looks truly believable and the chemistry is great. Good music, Alice Braga and that supple body made Cidade Baixa a decent movie that manages to escape its flaws most of the time.

Really enjoyed the hand-held feel of this film. Gritty and tough, but with plenty of emotion.
sexual, humeda, violenta y decadente. una mirada a una generacion acosada por su entorno que los obliga a reaccionar de la mejor manera posible ante tanta mierda.
The movie turns out to be a predictable and somewhat sentimental lower-depths love triangle, but Ms. Braga almost makes it work.
In the end, Lower City is never quite as energetic as it wants to be, touched by the strange, milky lethargy that steeps every waterfront film. full review
