PAN AND SCAN. Historia supersencilla pero interesante, sobre todo para quienes disfrutan del póker. Buenas actuaciones y dirección. / Ultrasimple but interesting story, especially for those who enjoy poker. Good performances and direction.
A very mediocre chick flick that tried "too late I might add" to cash in on the poker craze. The only redeeming quality is the Texas Hold Em scenes held true.
Not even my love for Eric Bana could save me from hating Lucky you. Bana and Barrymore have absolutely no chemistry, there's just no spark between them. At times its hard to tell what the film wants to be comedy or a serious drama, looking at it now maybe it should have stuck to the drama and left the romcom stuff alone, it would have worked much better. I'm not a fan of the whole gambling/poker thing either but that can't be used as an excuse cuz i loved rounders and casino royale. So check it out ONLY if you're seriously devoted to one of the cast other than that its just not worth it
Thought this was ok, Eric Bana was very sexy in this, the way he talked and especially that walk. The overal movie, I didn't expect so much card playing but it seemed to work, thought the ending could have used a little more thought and would have like it if the movie had a more intense climax but worth watching.
curtis hanson, you got to know when to fold em. you stunk the joint up eight mile and it's a wonder boy how this piece de crappe ever got released, have mercy on us and just give it up, give it up.
Enjoyed the father son relationship between Duvall and Bana. Also enjoyed Barrymore's subdued supporting performance. When you factor in the interesting poker scenes and a satisfying ending this film rates a thumbs up .
Not a big Barrymore fan, but this movie was more Duval and Bana and actually as interesting - possibly MORE interesting than Rounders. I thought Rounders didn't cater to the "guy has to get the girl in the end" formula, while Lucky You does. It wouldn't be a Drew Barrymore movie is it didn't (1st 50 Dates, Fever Pitch, etc.).
If you have an interest in poker then you'll probably enjoy this, for everyone else this is a bit of a slow moving trip through a series of card games. Director Curtis Hanson has hit a bit of a dead end here after a string of good films. The romantic subplot between Eric Bana and Drew Barrymore is pretty non exsistent while they give good performances. The other plot involving Bana and his father (played by Robert Duval) is better though there's not enough here to make you care.
Enjoyable enough for poker fans, but overall, too many other stupid things going on. It solidified my conviction that Drew Barrymore should stick to strictly comedic roles.
This movie starts off well but then starts to unravel during the golf scene. I didn't believe that the some of the characters would act the way that they did in the final act of the movie.
Big poker fans will love this movie. People who aren't probably won't really like it. I am a big poker fan so I enjoyed it. It got a little annoying at times just because the gambling was too much and there wasn't a really great story with Drew Barrymore and Eric Bana but I thought it was good. Unfortunately the winner of the tournament is painfully obvious but it was good enough and I got through the two hours with no problem.
I didn't like this!! I'm being generous here because of the cast, to watch Drew Barrymore, Eric Bana, Robert Duvall, Debra Messing and Robert Downey Jr is always a treat! Still the plot was lacking oomph and definitely boring!! Things weren't making sense to me, I was annoyed with it, it came to the point where I even stop paying attention to the film. Then there's the fact that Eric Bana, as gorgeous and sexy as he is, and Drew Barrymore, as talented and lovely as she is, jus don't go well together! They have NO chemistry whatsoever!! Then there's the golf thing, I mean come on WUT!? totally besides the point of the film. And what about giving Robert Downey Jr a bigger role? 'Cuz I'm sorry, but you don't use one of the best actors of his generation and just put him there for like 2 seconds!! True, it was nice to see him, the guys is fantastic even in the smallest of roles, but to put him and ignore him for the rest of the film was an outrage to me! By the end of the movie, with the well-explained poker game and the closure they fixed up a little what was going on, but still, I didn't enjoy this. I guess I'm rating this so high because of the good actors, Bana's hotness, the great beginning and the fixed-up ending.
It's a very stressing movie for me... this kind of movie makes me stressed and anxious. The truth about compulsive players and addicts are here... but still I didn't like the movie.
