Great sequel. The four friends are still trying to get back to New York zoo but their plane crashes in Africa, where Alex (lion) is reunited with his family. Marty (zebra) finds out he is not unique and Melvin (giraffe) finds out he is in love with Gloria (hippo). Funny scenes e....( read more)

It was okay, had it's funny moments. But the 4 main characters are just flat the 2nd time around. Thankfully they understand the real stars of these movies and gave the penguins thier own show. Them and the monkeys stole the movie.

This is one of those rare occasions where the sequel is better than the original ? but only by a whisker.

Critic Reviews
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is better-looking, funnier, and has a better story [than the original]. full review
The roots are shallow, but the sequel is good-natured, high-spirited and perfectly enjoyable if you take it for what it is. full review
To be fair, the film is not horrible nor is it completely unwatchable. But it is mediocre. full review
Lessons about family loyalty, tolerance, ingenuity, and sacrifice add depth to the screenplay by Etan Cohen and directors Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath. full review
If you own a TV, you will have heard the best laughs excerpted in unrelenting commercials leading up to the movie's release. full review
A film whose blend of madcap exploits and generosity makes it both hilarious and endearing. full review
This mediocre sequel to the 2005 DreamWorks Animation hit doesn't offer much to engage minds that have moved beyond coloring books. full review
Though it doesn't add anything new to the genre, Madagascar 2 is amusing animated fare. full review
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa extends what Madagascar did best: fill up the screen with computer-generated visual novelty. full review

February 16, 2009it was ok, but i prefer the first one...they could have done more with the characters. it would be nice to see a sequel only with the penguins, that would be a blast, cause they're soooo funny!
