Excellent period setting costumes and props highlight this "revenge" tale as well as the beautiful woodland backgrounds. Richard Harris does a fair enough job in a role that carries the weight of the whole film. The middle can be tiresome and repetitive as Harris's backstory is revealed (even if it's not important to the plot) gradually and offset by the more interesting shots of Harris's struggle to survive. The film is bookmarked by and excellent bear attack at the beginning and a fantastic Indian/woodsman shootout at the end. The tone may be too somber for some but patient fans can get a lot out of Man in the Wilderness.
